I see the mods just split the suspension forum out. Nice!

Can anyone who has access to the OEM part numbers compare the V springs/struts/shocks to the Kia Forte and Forte Koup? The suspension looks very similar.

They may have used different spring rates though. It just looks so similar that I was thinking the available Forte Koup suspension setups may fit.

i have a feeling that they are going to be about the same as far as spring rates are concerened, but you have to worry about height and strut length.

there are a whole bunch of things that go into it then just swapping springs. Besides it not from the same chassis...i could see maybe the elantra or the accent (they are closer) but the forte is a totally different chassis. ALTHOUGH, the components come from hyundai...either way, there is alot more too it.

why do you want to swap anyway? they will be coming out with spring/strut packages soon enough.

Yeah, I'm big on suspension and spent countless hours tweaking my IS300. I know valving, length, etc. could be different and you're asking for trouble trying to make a part fit. I wasn't saying if they are similar, we may be able to make them fit. I'm just wondering if they are the same parts. They do look like the same setup when you compare them, but what you're saying is what I want to find out; are they indeed different? A part number search would confirm that they are.

If they were the same parts, the aftermarket manufacturers may not need to spin new springs and they are already developing coil overs for the Koup. Stock replacement shocks/struts to handle lowering springs on the other hand are not made by anyone yet for the Koup.

My reason is a stock suspension can always be made better (at least for my driving).

i agree with you...but being that the Koup weights more then the veloster the spring rates are going to be different and what is good for the goose and not always good for the gander.

I have spend alot of time tweaking my elantra aswell. I am currently running H&R springs with Tiburon KYB gr-2's..prior to that i had Tein Super Street coils from the tiburon. The elantra guys use the tib struts because they are a tick shorter (same chassis) and are stiffer due to the extra weight of the tib.

I hope Koni gets on the game with this car. I would love to have adjustable damping without having to buy coil-overs.

I have Tokico Illuminas on my IS (5-way adjustable) but I know being a Japanese company, they would never make anything for the Korean market.

The down side of buying a new model...no aftermarket (yet). The wait's gonna kill me. lol

Speaking of suspension.. 18's + Brick college campus road = rough ride :(

Is your tire pressure ok?

i still dont understand why everybody is complaining....you have about an inch of rubber and a stiff suspension...yes its going to be a little rough. haha

just wait till you get a REAL performance tire on there...

Yea,My BMW Z3 had great suspension and all-seasom tires and it was great, and I was told if I went to summer tires that it would be a whole different driveing experience on my Veloster :D

Indeed.

I can bet you this car will be faster on a track with super sticky tires with the stock suspension than any first gen bolt on suspension kits available in the next 6 months.

I could see MAYBE doing a set of good shocks, but seriously most tuners for suspension kits will never tell you what type of engineering they did on the kits. Its almost always work on a shock dyno and computer designed. Which means those parts were never run through R&D on a car let alone seen a track.

My advice is to wait for some real world data, lap times autox etc. And be very cautious with suspension kits.

Reminds me of a recent discussion on the Genesis forum I belong to.

Someone posted some info regarding a new line of matched lowering springs and shocks for Bilstein, which if anyone doesnt know, is a very, very high end maker of high performance suspension components.

Anyway, some people on the forum dont know who Bilstein is and had made a few comments about how you could purchase Megan Racing coil overs for the same price as the Bilsteins.

A comparison that got a few LOL's out of people who know what they are.

Personally Id drive around on the stock suspension before Id slap those Megan Racing or another made in some sweatshop in Taiwan brand.

yeah i agree...i jumped the gun on the elantra and bought the teins (for the wow and raise and lowering ability) without doing any research on them. I swear that the spring/damper set i have on here now handles better even if it does sway a tick more.

Haha. Megan Racing. What a joke. I had one experience with them and that was one too many (downpipe on my IS300). Sorry, I don't usually laugh at a potential vendor but Megan is an exception. Their stuff gets NO proper engineering. They just check to make sure it fits not verifying that it is properly engineered for the car.

Tein has gone that route lately too. Stiffer IS NOT better!

I would LOVE Swift to make springs for this car, but they are very picky about what cars they build for. A Swift/Koni Yellow combo would be yummy on this car.

Is it KDM, or is it Tein?

Please don't say it's Tein...

sweet

Tein seems to have gotten cheaper over the years, and they don't engineer their products for the track like they used to. They seem to be more interested in the drop these days than they are proper suspension design.

#22 ·
Nothn wrong with Tein at all they are amazing product..Its just your paying close to $2000 locally here for a system as opposed to HSD which will cost about $1350 with Monotube design and FULL control
HSD are proven Coilover kitss!!
Also there are other coilover kits i have seen and can get if you guys were intrested
They are From Korea :)

I dont know if you guys the brand Road Magnets but I
contact Brandon there and he said that they are
currently on the works for for lowering springs for
the V but they might need a test mule for it but they are located in VA,
I think..?
They the lowest drop for the IS350
here is a pic of my IS with Road Magnets

ok...couple of things.

1. you dont want to go TOO low, it will throw your geometry off and actually HURT handling.

2. the OEM struts will not be able to handle it being so low, and the ride will suck

I think..

1. Low center of gravity will make cornering better with reliable suspension. If stroke of piston travel long enough to break geometry of the vehicle, I agree that suspension is wrong set up.

2. Average coil over do not consider bump stop. As you lower or lowest setting, there are no spaces to travel. Many known brand's suspension kit has short travel distance that will hold the car even at lowest position.

Cusco for example have spring adjuster and bottom bracket adjustment. No matter how low you set, the length of stroke stay pretty much same even after compressed with car's weight. Yes, it will cost $3k for this version and may have plan to develop.

KW will be good one except they normally don't offer camber plate on top mount.

TEIN in Korean version only has height adjustable type.

3. Its important to have company you can trust and where they do overhaul. Many known brand can replace just partial of suspension.

Like Apexi Integration, they have spring rate tester, and have all the individual parts to do overhaul and bring back to same compression setting as you bought as new. Not for V yet.

My suggestion is wait after SEMA Show, there are many brands will display at SEMA.

^oh hands down!

maybe i'll get around to completing my tire blog...this time it will focus on tread and compound and some of the different performance tires out there. maybe...
