So I go out to my car today and fired it up and when I put it into reverse, it didn't move. I looked at the cluster and the reverse symbol was flashing instead of being constant. Also, the rpms won't go over a certain range, even in drive. Why won't my car move? I don't have a spare vehicle so I'm stranded here at home until I can fix this.

Here is the video. I'm shocked right now to be honest. I am planning on going on a 2,000 mile road trip NEXT WEEK and this is the reliability I can expect? I fully admit that I do a lot to my car but I didn't do anything that would cause this. At first I thought maybe I didn't fully plug in the electrical cable that goes to the shifter lifts but I already checked that and the fact that you guys have seen this before leads me to believe its something else.

So the car was towed to the dealership. I was given a Sonata to drive in the meantime which I don't particularly care for but it's nice for a loaner car. This thing is just way too smooth for me.

The dealership is supposed to call me back sometime today to let me know what's up. There is about a 1% chance this is caused by something I did and about a 99% chance it's hyundai's fault. I'll let you guys know what happens.

For sure! I will definitely post an update when I receive one.

Mine has done this, but I just turned it off and then back on.
It has only happened twice so I haven't brought it in.

Let us know what you find out!
I thought maybe that would fix mine so I tried turning it off and on a few times and I disconnected the battery for a bit and reconnected it and it did the same thing. We'll see what the dealership says.

Any update from your dealer on this? mine does the same thing and I drove it all the way into the dealer, inside the drive lane I had it running, put it in reverse, the light flashed and I reved the engine, he had a cow but the car didn't move. turned it off and restarted and the problem went away, happens every so often but not that bad. restart and it clears.

Sorry to hear that. My car is STILL at the dealership and the first part they tried replacing didn't fix the problem(of course). I told them what part they needed to replace after they told me they were going to do a whole transmission swap and I'm still waiting to hear back from them. I call at the end of every day to ask for an update because they don't call me like they say they will. They say, we'll call you tomorrow to let you know if its been fixed or not and they never do call.

Hang in there and I'll have an answer for you soon.

My dealer is also suntrup. They are terrible and I would never recommend anyone go there. The salesman was an *******, and clearly the service department doesn't have a clue. I call them every day asking for an update and each time they tell me they are waiting on a part or something and they will call me the next day. They never call the next day and I have to end up calling them back. The last time this happened, Matt told me he would call me daily to update me on the progress. Well guess what. He didn't call yesterday..

Well, nice isn't what I was implying. In fact, one of their service advisers is a complete d!ck. But they've fixed two minor warranty issues on my car quickly and will soon be repairing my rear window washer.

:)

Oh I knew you weren't implying that! :) It was just another point I wanted to make. They replaced my steering wheel and did the sunroof test and I didn't have any issues with that. I'm pretty sure they won't have any issues replacing the washer either. For some reason this one is stumping them. When I asked Matt the service guy if he had seen this before, he said no.

Also, the reason I'm frustrated with them is that they don't call when they tell me they will. I hate it when people make false promises like that.

I was having issues with my car not going into reverse even when it was in reverse... READ THIS IF YOU HAVE A 2012 HYUNDAI VELOSTER DCT AUTO or MANUAL. Ok so I've been complaining about my car to my Hyundai dealership and had brought it to the dealer on THREE different occasions due to numerous transmission/gear slippage and other weird issues involving my transmission and the gears while driving (RPMS shoot up when foot is off gas, car not going in reverse, car jolting and aggressive thrusting of the car in low speeds)… this issue has always been intermittent and every time I took it to the dealer we were unable to replicate the issue when a technician was driving/me driving and it did not set off any diagnostic issues or red flags while hooked up to the computer. I’ve read so many posts and reviews about people experiencing major transmission issues with low mileage on the vehicle, literally exactly what I was describing other people are too. The dealer said they can’t do anything to help me from me describing the issue, they need to see it for themselves or the computer needs to tip them off. Something interesting happened today to make me believe Hyundai is trying to hide a massive recall on my 2012 Automatic Hyundai Veloster DCT. Today I picked my car up after many techs had driven the car trying to replicate my problem (I left it at the dealer over night). They told me for a third time that it's not the car and their nothing wrong and it could the way I'm driving the car (i.e. not coming to a full stop before switching gears), last time they gave me a pamphlet to explain to me how the DCT works and blamed it on the dual clutch. That it’s driver error and not the cars fault. Online before bringing the car in I was doing research I saw a lot of people complaining of similar tranny issues that won't come up on the computer scan so Hyundai won't do anything. I heard some people mention them replacing a part called a "GATE SHIFT ACTUATOR" and getting improvements from that. Because of minimal literature online I’m not exactly sure what the part does but someone described it as… it helps execute gear sifts and help the car shift smoothly. Today when getting my car, which hadn't been worked at all, they said that they put a call into “Corporate” and Hyundai Corporate told them to replace my GATE SHIFT ACTUATOR. I asked if it would solve my issue and why they would do that if they are saying the car is fine, he said he didn't know why, but the Hyundai higher ups just told them to replace it. I asked if it was a recall and he said no, but was weird about answering it. So they don't think anything is wrong with the car but they want to replace an important part of the car and I have to leave it over night cause hey have to take the whole transmission out to replace it. I think a lot of people have an issue with the shifting and this could solve it, but Hyundai is not posting the recall because they don’t have to for some reason but they are aware the issue exists as they are replacing this part that could solve all my odd issues. I feel they don’t want to recall it because it will be a lot of money for the company to replace everyone's in their Veloster. I will post back about how my car is, they had to “Special Order” the part and will take a week to come in!

I was having issues ........week to come in!
Just to help those of us with 2012 NAV automatic/manual:

1) how many miles did you have on your car when this happened?

2) would you suggest current owners approach their dealerships and ask for a Gate Shift Actuator change? -- yes or no will do just fine

I am not so sure that it is a forum problem as there are plenty of long posts -- way too long! Suggestion: write your comments off the forum, maybe in your e-mail, and then copy and paste them so that it is all there at once. If it bombs, you still may have a saved "draft" in your e-mail.
