Mines an 08, Car of the Year before Honda farked it all up

 

The V looks pretty good against the civic, makes the Civic look a bit vanilla.

Our '09 civic ended up being the most boring car we ever owned

 

I really enjoyed my '94 CX since it just worked. It was bare bones and got great mpg's. I didn't mind the '98 EX and I feel it was near the "high-water mark" with the Civic line-up. I looked at the '12 Civic Si but got the Veloster instead for many reasons. I'm happy with my purchase.

 

I agree about the 6th gen Civics being the last of the "good" civics. it kinda seems in the last few years Honda has lost its way. i had a 96 Civic hatch and it was a great car, it had no options. not even a/c and i still loved it.

Actually, mines an 8th gen, 2006-2010. 6th gen is back in the mid 90's lol!

 

As a loyal and dedicated Honda enthusiast for the better part of 15 years I'm very dissapointed with where Honda is right now. Countless Honda owning friends feel the same way I do. Even just 5 years ago I would NEVER have thought I'd buy a Hyundai new or used. And here I am with my Tri-gray Tech Pack Veloster. It seems the tides are shifting. I'm really hoping Honda hears this wake-up call and does something positive about it. But shhhhh, this is a Hyundai forum and I never said that.

 

I hate to see any manufacturer lose it's way, but we all have to look at the bright side. Whatever Honda lost, Hyundai has found. If Honda wants to right its ship all it has to do is look west to Korea. I used to be a fan of Honda, but no more.

Glad im not the only who who feels this way along with being a bit heart broken at how much Honda has screwed up and even utterly failed these last few years in their lackluster designs, no new technology and pushing the envelope or lack thereof. I owned 3 accords and loved them, both sedan and coupe and was just disgusted with the 8th gen Accord design and forgetfull new engine. My 05 CR-V was the best vehicle I ever owned so to see it get clown car'ed with the 3rd generation and then even worse with the new 4th gen, I fell deeper into a state of "WTF is Honda's problem?" The CR-Z turned into the biggest "What the hell were they thinking?" of the industry after I was excited about it for a good while. Don't even get me started on the Insight...


The final straw that killed the camel was the abismall failure that was the 9th gen Civic in comparison to the beloved 8th gen among many people like me. Now, I have to say goodbye to over a decade of love and passion for Honda since my high school days in late 90's and it really bites hard. I would have to be completely narrow and close minded if I didn't see how the industry was changing and just remained a loyal "fanboy" of Honda despite the evidence against them.

May my memories of good times with my Honda's live on:

92 Accord sedan LX *first car I owned after HS*
98 Accord sedan EX-L V6
04 Accord coupe EX-L V6
05 CR-V EX
08 Civic coupe EX-L *my first new car and last Honda*

 

i do hear the phrase "Hyundai is the new Honda" quite a bit.

 

The 8thgen Sis were better than the ones before them. The K20 and good handling are the only things that make the car fun.

 

I had an 06 Civic coupe and the 8th gen was very nice.

I do not like the 9th gen at all. Seems like Honda took 2 steps back with that one.

i remember honda saying they wanted to play it safe with the design of the civic and just upgrade it tiny bit give it better mpg. IMO i dont know how you can make a CR - Z better looking and say thats that car and the civic is one of the best selling cars out there so were not going to change too much about it, its really confusing

 

Conclusion: Honda USED to be great. It flew down the cliff in the past years. Hyundai has replaced it for most of us on these forums.

 

The 8th-gen Civic (06-11) was car of the year for a good reason, great design, refinement and efficiency. We have an 06 and as a family hauler, it works perfectly and is way more refined and ahead of its time compared to civics before and after.

I drive a 99 civic (6th-gen 96-00) and I love everything but the refinement (or lack thereof). Gonna miss it when I replace it with a VT. A great driver's car.

I was shocked to see the latest civic falling flat in every respect. If they left the 8th gen alone and sold it another 5 years, Honda would be better off.

Don't count honda out. Civics are an even gen car. 4, 6, 8 gens were the best ones

 

I see your EX with the Si spoiler and I raise you my two old Si's.




And I agree, the 2012 ones are horrible. They do drive very nice with all the extra torque, but they look like ass and the interior is lower quality.

 

In Honda's defense, they do try to design better looking cars... just not for the North American market.

The only good thing about the 9th gens are that they are a head swap, a set of cams, and a tune away from close to 300 WHP.

 

Round 2 on a sunny Sunday. Liking v style more and more, makes my 8th gen civic look antique
