I think you're having the exact same (really annoying) problem that just cropped up for me yesterday. First, let me apologize for my lack of brevity. I was a philosophy major in college, so I ramble..

I have a 2013 base Veloster (bought in Alabama---but not manufactured in the Alabama Hyundai plant, not that this matters). Had it for a few weeks, just over 1000 miles. Bluetooth worked flawlessly to begin with--which is good because that was one of the main reasons I got a newer car instead of an older model (ok, I also really loved the Veloster, but that's beside the point). Anyway...

Turned my car on after work and the bluetooth wouldn't work. Actually, when I push the "Phone" button, the phone screen popped up. It started uploading my recent calls, but when I pushed the green call button on the steering wheel, nothing happened. I went to the setup screen and tried to push "Bluetooth." The button lit up and then nothing happened. Annoyed, I pulled into a parking lot, turned the car off for a minute, turned it back on. The head unit reset, and I was able to access the Bluetooth settings and phone. For a minute or two. Then it stopped working again.

At that point, if I initiated a call on my cell phone, and had my phone (iPhone 4S with 6.1.2 iOS) connected to the Veloster, the call came up over the car speakers and the microphone worked, but nothing showed on the head unit. Eventually that stopped. And I still couldn't access the Bluetooth setup. Whenever I push the "Phone" button, it said "INITIALIZING BLUETOOTH HANDSFREE" up top on the screen for a few seconds, then went away.

When I got home, I turned the car off and back on a minute later. I was again able to access Bluetooth settings. I reset Bluetooth to factory settings (or whatever that option is) and it deleted all connected phones. Then I went through the process of re-pairing my phone. Everything seemed to work, though I didn't stick around for very long. I get in my car this morning, everything connects and I'm thinking I had fixed the issue. Nope. Worked for a couple of minutes, then I ran into the same exact issues as yesterday.

I actually tried to call Hyundai customer service yesterday evening, but the (very nice) lady didn't really know what she was doing. She was just trying to pull up the electronic version of the owner manual on her computer. I told her I could do that myself, so not to worry about it. Clearly this isn't a problem they have specifically identified and know how to trouble shoot. I guess I'll go to the dealer this weekend. I'm very annoyed because, as I said, Bluetooth was one of my favorite things about getting a new car. Oh, this problem also affects your ability to user Pandora (if that's something you do) since you have to go through Bluetooth to do it. Another thing I really loved about the car. I really hope they can get this (painlessly) fixed. Maybe just a software update. Because this, to me, clearly seems like a software issues, not a hardware (or user) issue.

If anyone has any idea how to fix it, I'm all ears. I wonder if that "ELA" user interface that can be installed via USB would fix the problem? I might try that if the dealer doesn't have any luck.

I suggest re-pairing the phone to the head-unit. This should be done by deleting it from the head-unit's memory and then pairing it again.

I guess I posted right after you did, but I had the same problem and re-pairing the phone didn't fix the issue (for more than a few minutes at least). And it is kind of difficult to re-pair when you can't access the Bluetooth menu. That was my first thought, but didn't work. Certainly worth trying for others. Maybe it will work for them.

Ok, I may have found a fix after looking around these forums a bit more. Apparently this is, while not a completely common issue, something that pops up regularly enough. Anyway, after combining a few fixes, I think I have my problem kicked, though I was only able to test it for 5-10 minutes since I was late for an appointment. Here's what I did, and hopefully it works for others with this issue:

1) "Forgot" the Veloster in my iPhone Bluetooth settings. Then may not be necessary if you can access Bluetooth settings after turning your car on.
2) Used a paperclip to push the system reset button to the left of the CD drive. This won't reset your preset stations or anything, so that's good.
3) I went into Bluetooth settings in the Veloster and changed Auto-Connect to no, and set it so it would not download my call history or contacts. I have a bunch of both---I think this may have been the key---system overloaded when trying to download them, though not sure why it took weeks to become an issue. I think that the Auto-Connect can probably be turned back on, and I may do that if I have a few days without issues.
4) Done a factor reset on Bluetooth settings.
5) Turned Bluetooth back on on my iPhone and re-paired the Veloster.

I've made a call directly from the Veloster, I've streamed music through Bluetooth and I was able to access and play Pandora. Again, only played with it for a few minutes, but that's longer that it has worked in the last 24 hours. I'm crossing my fingers that it keeps working. I was actually able to get an appointment at another local Hyundai dealership tomorrow. I'll give this until tomorrow and see if it is still working before I cancel. Very annoying problem. I don't have a lot of patience when it comes to a new bit of technology not working for me, especially when I'm relying on it.

When i first noticed the problem i was using ios 7 beta.. (but i rarely use it -- this problem may of been happening before my upgrade to i0s7) so i restored my iPhone 4 back to ios 6.1.3 and it still failed to initialize with phone
So i reset the head unit via the little reset hole... it worked once connected to my phone no problems..
5 mins later i tried to make another call and its failed to initialize with phone when it failes to initialize with phone i can not even get into the bluetooth menu in the nav headset

i will try what you have done MattAU5 and see if it helps me any :) but still i plan on contacting my service centre asap ...

Ok so i did what you done Matt, un paired my phone .. reset my system via the small reset hole, reset the bluetooth and turned off auto connect and the downloading of contacts, re-paired the phone to system..
for now it is working ... but we shouldn't have to do this .. so im still going to call up my service centre..

I completely agree. If there is a function, the function should work without having to find a work around. I'll get it looked at eventually, but I just don't have time right now. Hopefully it is something they can fix via a software update. That seems to be the issue.

Ever since I did the blue link introduon my car it has been unpairing the blue tooth where phone and pandora do not work on entramce ito my car. I keep trying differrnt things.

I forgot about the veloster pairing to with the blue link. I will hsbe to try it.

I am wishing I never tried the blue link in the car. Because I had to sit there for five minute introduction talking to someone about the services they provide. Everytime I enter the car it asked me do I want to go the same route again and I have to say cancel. It almost seems like it's interfering with the Bluetooth operation when it comes on.

Don't know if this is fixed, but my suggestion is to wipe the settings like you've done, make sure auto download of the phone book is off, and then pair it up. If it works, then download the phonebook manually into the system, then make sure it's switched off. Otherwise, it'll keep going into those logs and trying to sync them every time you connect, then when it slows the pan down, it freezes up. It can probably do it once no problem. If you have to, clear the call logs when you do it, and try it again.

My phone doesn't download the phonebook to the head unit. I never have a problem with it.
