Slight 3rd Gear Grind

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone has been experiencing any grinding when shifting from 2nd to 3rd? It seems to happen to me if I don't ease it in. Like if I shift a little too quickly, it'll have a slight grind... My past manual cars never did this so I'm just curious as to why it's doing that. It isn't really an urgent issue but I was just wondering if it has happened to anyone else.

Thanks,
Brandon

Bring it back to the dealer. Could be your clutch not disengaging fully or a bad synchro in your trans. Or it could be a shifter issue. Let them figure it out.

I have an issue on second and third gear sometimes. The clutch is always to the floor and I'm usually around 4000rpm. It doesn't grind but I do feel the gears meshing - it shakes the shifter a bit.

I have switched to granny shifting to alleviate the problem and allow the rpms to drop between shifts, but it still happens.

Good to know I'm not alone on this one. Might contact the dealer to get the clutch checked.

I have it to. Clutch replaced At the dealer ship. But the noise is back...

I had this issue between 1st and 2nd on a brand new accent. I don't believe it's normal, and although it's slightly irritating, it's one of those cases where the dealer may never resolve it. However, if you persist enough, they will eventually replace the whole transmission, which seems to be the resolution to most problems in this area.

I'm pretty sure your Velosters are fine. I wouldn't call it grinding gears but when I'm shifting from 2nd to 3rd too fast, it sometimes feels a bit "toothy" as if I can feel gears coming together. If you want to eliminate the "grind" as well as the 1st to 2nd lag, simply release the gas a few milliseconds before pressing the clutch. The Veloster loves to "rev hang" so even though most cars would slow down if you released the gas too early, the V will not.

Hmm. My post shows a typo, though it's not there when I press edit. Deal with it I guess.

edit: no matter what I do, it displays the word shift twice. WTF?
edit: fixed by changing it to "shifting"

Just got a call back from the dealer. Their mechanic drove it 12 miles and said that he didn't notice any grinding... I think I'll try what smallaxe says and maybe even unplug the top clutch switch as that might get rid of the rev hang. Hopefully that'll get rid of the problem...

Hey guys, i know its been a while since my last post but i finally have some good news! I'm getting a new transmission :) I recorded the grinding 3rd gear and showed it to the tech. Also, this time a Tech went with me for a test drive and I made sure he heard the grinding 3rd gear. I'll be getting the transmission replaced on monday and hopefully it won't have the same problem.

Has anyone checked yet to see if this car lends it self well to clutchless shifting ? My Dart with a four speed, my Ranger with a five speed and my Firebird with a five speed shifted BEAUTIFULLY without the clutch but my Altima with a five speed refused.

I posted my question in another thread and a member posted that he has tried it on upshifts except the 1-2 shifts and he really likes the way it works. You probably have a problem that a tech needs to deal with BUT, if the issue is with synchros, it may actually shift BETTER without the clutch. This method takes some practice because every car has it's own specific way to shift it clutchless and some refuse to do it AT ALL. I think it is worth a little research and field testing. I'll be trying it on mine if I can ever get it away from my Wife.
