In general, which setup or method has the better sound?

2 cars identical, both stock.

A) cc-->no resonator-->stock muffler-->stock exhaust tip
B) cc-->stock resonator-->no muffer-->stock exhaust tip

I'm sure what exactly would be the difference between the two. One has a resonator but no muffler and the other has no resonator but a muffler. Which sound would be louder? More annoying?

Ah, so the muffler quiets the sound MORE than a resonator right?

Is there such a thing as "performance" resonators that still quiet things down
but not like stock level?

And same for mufflers. Do some mufflers intentionally allow for more sound?

(in my current used car which is not a veloster, this is the setup it came with...in continuing my question about resonators/mufflers and noise levels...)

Forgive me for the poor photoshop skills lol. As you can see, there is NO resonator, so naturally, the car is louder, even though I have a muffler still. But you can also see there is a 2nd exhaust pipe that was welded onto the main pipe just before the muffler. This 2nd pipe has an electronic controlled valve near the end. When it's closed, the car is decent loud (due to no resonator), b
ut when I open this valve, essentially then the 2nd pipe is a straight pipe (no resonator AND no muffler on this side) so the sound is SUPER LOUD (especially on high RPMs). My question is, do you think if I re-installed a resonator in my setup, that the sound would be more tolerable with the the electronic controlled valve open, because now the 2nd exhaust pipe would have a resonator but no muffler instead of before where the path had no resonator and muffler. Of course, if I keep the valve closed, 1st exhaust path (original) would now be almost stock quiet since it has the resonator and muffler to travel through before exiting tail pipe #1. I wonder if it would be better for me to just install a resonator. This way, if I want some loudness, I can then just open my valve on the 2nd line and it would be a resonator-no-muffler sound instead of a no-resonator-no-muffler sound. Did that make sense?

Resonators are different from mufflers. Mufflers use baffles and matting to reduce sound from specific tones and notes (performance) or most sound (stock mufflers), where a resonator cancels out an amount of what most people refer to as "drone"

Easy mode: Mufflers make your exhaust quiet, resonators make your exhaust tamer.

I would throw a glass pack in for a resonator, you'll get a better tone than straight pipes, and it will help with the muffler side, making it slightly quieter.

Unless you change the muffler to a stock muffler (assuming that it is not since it's "decent loud"), it will not be quiet, just toned down a bit.
