the title says it all. I preferably don't want to have the stock head unit gone. Where is the amp? On the internet I've seen stock amps under passenger seat??? But mine is not there? Can I update/hack into the head unit software so it doesnt send the low frequencies to the stock speakers and divide them instead to have them sent to the sub I'm planing to install? I've done subs with aftermarked head units before but never with a stock one. Does this void my warranty?

If your car do not have the dimension audio system then you do not have the amp under the passenger seat and you do not have the sub in the trunk, the dimension audio system had 8 speakers, 1 center 2 in each front door, 1 in each side of the back seat and a sub in the trunk

You can use the speaker wires to get preamp outputs for the sub. That's how my Rockford Fosgate amp is getting signal; I tap the speaker level connection with an Audiocontrol LCQ1 which then provides line output to the RF. Works well. I was nervous that doing that would give a subpar signal, full of noise, but it actually sounds great.

I have a 2013 Base Veloster with the 4 speaker system (2 components in the front, 2 coaxials in the back). The stock HU doesn't have a line output for the missing amp that we could use to get line level signal to our desired future amp? The only way to get full range sound is to get it from a rear speaker and use a line converter?

Hey Saturn,

Yep, you are correct. Tap into your REAR speaker wires, and input to an Audiocontrol LC2i. (You'll have to get battery power TO your LC2i as it is active) Send the output from the LC2i via RCA Cables to either an aftermarket amp, or to an EQ, then to an amp(s). The LC2 will "sense" when your factory radio is turned on and will automatically turn on and power up your amps. Voila... instant sonic heaven from your factory radio. Oh, upgrade your speakers too.

No, my stock driver's side speaker died past week so I'm thinking, for now, adding an amp and replace stock speakers with Polk Audio DB6501 in the front and Polk Audio DB651 in the back (can't get DB652 here in Argentina).
I may add another amp + sub in a future, but for now with just replacing the stock speakers and adding more sound I think I would be happy.

I think I may put two pairs of DB6501 (I think there's enough place to create room for the tweeters in the back) with 2 amps Alpine Ktp-445u (Bridged in 2 channel each so I get 90W RMS per output). This amps are very efficient (Class D) and accept high input signals with gain settable.

My stock speaker sounds like this:

It's so annoying to listen to music like that.
