Auto Trans - No reverse

My Veloster is about 4 months old. A couple of times when putting it in reverse, it sort of bucked, nothing excessive and not often. This morning when I put it in reverse, it seems to stay in neutral. The engine races but the car does not move. I’m waiting for the tow truck now. Has anyone else had this or similar problem with the automatic transmission?

Update - Hyundai said the bucking is normal and comes from the dual clutch. They also said for me to have my wife crank the car and put it in nutral. Then for me to push it backwards, until we get to a point where we can drive forwards, then drive to the shop. Now that's Customer Service :-(

After filling up my tank i put it in reverse and nothing. The revs went up but very slow. I put it back in park turned off car, restarted engine waited a few seconds then put in reverse. Heard a louder click than usual coming from tranny but all was well. Weird but its been 2 days and hasnt repeated. Just noticed that my average mpg went down though, from 29 to 25.7. Filled with premium shell gas. Hmmmm. the MPG in this car doesnt live up to the hype BTW.

My wife talked to the dealer. They told her the 5 years of 24/7 roadside assistance only covered two tows and that it would be safe to drive it in. She wanted to "save" the 2 tows in case she ever had a problem on the road and I was not arround. Rather than argue with her and the dealer, I just followed in the truck so if it broke, I could pull it off the road.

Yes I have had the exact same problem. I bought mine in December of 2011 and have taken it into the shop 5 times. They have reprogrammed the computer twice but I still have the reverse go out. I strongly recommend the next time that happens to you is to record it. My experience is they take it in the shop and if they are unable to reproduce the problem it does not count as a repair. If you show them the video they cannot deny it is happening.

I bought my Vitamin C, 2012 Veloster, March 10, 2012. My car would not go into reverse back in June. I took a video of the issue. I took it into the shop, they reset the transmission. Was fine until this past Tuesday, it happened again, I recorded it, then again this morning. I spoke to my Service Manager, who has been great so far. I have to take it in - AGAIN. I just got it out of the shop for my radio locking up, staying on the start up screen, could not use my bluetooth or BlueLink. They replaced the whole radio with no issues, and replaced my steering wheel because it was coming apart also.

Will keep everyone posted on the transmission issue....... :(

the closest ive had to this problem was i left somewhere pissed off, and was revving the engine to about 5k and slammed it into reverse, except i rolled forward. i just figured that its a safety feature for the clutches so they dont get smoked off. only time ive ever had it happen though! when the RPM came down to about 2500 i felt the clutches engage and i was backing up as intended

Ok Had this issue again, been just over a year since the last time it happened. Was in South Fl so there was no significant change in weather or the likes. Been good for over a year and been fine since this. Drove it a bit in Drive, shut it off and restarted and issue resolved. Anyone seen this in a while or hear anything from the dealer?
