Which Veloster Version should I get?

Seems to be a popular question on the forum about which Veloster version has what and the options or differences for each model. Please check to make sure I have the correct information as I did this over a couple day period. Also these values are based on the US version (possibly Canada as well). I am also going to create a spreadsheet for the cost of gas over year and 5-year period depending on the model you get.

This chart above is to answer Is the turbo worth it? When considering the cost only. Will add in the packages as a separate table later.

Assuming a 4.9% interest rate and 60 month term.
Also assuming no down payment, no title/taxes/tag fees.
Also assuming 13,500 miles driven per year with $3.60 average gas price

I got the 2014 Turbo and love it! The R-Spec is super cool to, I would go off what you want to do with this car, like if you want to put extra into and make it faster go with the Turbo or R-Spec or if you are looking at just saving money i would go with the normal veloster.

Honestly it all depends on your budget. I got my elite white base model VT for $21,900. I like regular veloster, but coming from a MazdaSpeed I had to have the Turbo. The Remix is dope, but it's more expensive than the Base Model Turbo, so it doesn't make sense to get it unless you care about looks more than performance. The Ultimate Package VT's are nice, but they do weigh close over 300lbs more than the base model & they are like $3000 more. So if you have the money to blow & want a sun roof & rear backup cam, get the Turbo Ult. If your trying to keep your payments to a minimum get the Base Model Turbo. Hope this helps :D

Yeah I agree it definitely depends on the budget, some people decide to get the Style+tech packages on the NAV when it would be the same or cheaper to get the turbo.

And weight does matter especially with MPG which is important to me. I should have put the curb weight in there as well...

I don't think he's asking us. I think he made that for people who come on here and have questions
Yeah that was my intention :), tried to word it similar to something someone might be searching for via google or on here.

I don't know if I would bother with the R-spec. The Veloster is a sporty car but not as much a sports car. I say this coming from a Mazda MX-5. I am not talking about speed. I am talking about handling. If you want real sports car handling then go and buy it rather than losing out on features like heated seats to get handling that will still not be sports car worthy.

Don't get me wrong I love my Veloster. It's nice sporty car!

Yep, it's a sporty-looking car, not a sports car :) With economy in mind.
Completely agree. It's a sporty car, not a sports car. By that I mean it has practicality features and amenities that a 'purist' sports-car would not likely have (at anything like the price point) at the expense of some performance and handling. If I were to put it in my own words, I'd say it's a car that is comfortable and luxurious AND a lot of fun to drive, but there are there are other cars that are faster and/or handle more crisply and/or have better dyno numbers at the expense of comfort. I view my VT as offering a great mix of comfort, amenities and performance, while 'absolutely excelling' at none of those. You can find cars (in the comparable range) with better 0-60 times. You can find cars with better road-holding capabilities (arguable with non-stock tires though), you can find cars with a few (very few) more features and amenities. But I find the VT to have a great 'sweet spot' on combining all of the above, to reach a combination I'll characterize as "most fun" to drive with a hefty dose of practicality in factors like mileage, rear-seat usability, rear stowage capacity, etc. On pretty much every basis: skidpad G's, 0-60, ride, features, etc. you can find a competitor at similar price-point that supersedes the VT on one of the above. Where I think Hyundai has been smart is to find a really great middle-of-the-road car that is "good enough" on all of them to create a synchronicity. Add to that the 'distinctive' design and 'unboring' factors and it's a winner in my book. If I could go back and change my decision in favor of a Honda si, Mazdaspeed3, mini cooper works, etc.... I'd still make the same decision.

I did the same thing you did I went from a Mazdaspeed to the Veloster and had the same requirements for wanting the Turbo Model.
