This thread is for everyone to post what they did today to their Veloster. Modifications or maintenance or whatever.

This weekend I decided I'd tackle the problem aging cars have: plastics becoming sticky. I tried it out first on other non-car objects after watching many different YouTube tutorials. I used the most simple solution: rubbing alcohol. This isn't a one and done thing. It needs lots of repetitions. I started with the plastic piece in the driver side armrest that houses the window/lock controls. I used a microfiber cloth. The spot on the cloth was solid black after the first wipe. I repeated this about 10 more times always going with a piece of cloth that hadn't been blackened. Eventually, it made the plastic less sticky. I also did this with the dash, the passenger side window control plastic, and the shift knob. What I didn't realize about the shift knob that the alcohol revealed was that it had some kind of plastic covering it that dulled it. The alcohol brought it back to full shiny black! I'll revisit the other areas again because it could still be better despite already being much, much better. Then I'll head into the back seat area.
Pictures or it didn't happen. 😂🤷🏼‍♂️👍
You must live somewhere near the sea. Plastics don't typically get sticky here but thin and cracked
And just like that the veloster is gone. Just have a few parts laying around to sell off now

Two miles from the beach but I'm not convinced that has anything to do with. The year long heat here in south Florida seems more likely, though I do keep the car shaded the majority of the time and I try to maintain that even when parking somewhere besides home. My plastic headlight covers are crystal clear still.

Well, I think I've reached the end of the road with my Veloster. Catalytic converter in the manifold is closing up, and the entire intake system needs to be disassembled and decarbonated. We're talking walnut blasting the intake valves, removing and cleaning the injectors, throttle body and intake manifold... And I don't feel like dropping 800$ on an exhaust manifold.

So tomorrow I'm getting it evaluated for trade in, and going to be looking at the Santa Fe.

If there are any Montreal area members here, i might have a good number of parts to sell, real cheap. I'll let you guys know.

I know, I don't know if it's fixable or not.

Big oof.
First time on this thread, saw the first post was "drove to work". Skipped to latest expecting the same level of frivolity. Boy was I shocked.
For some 'good' news: I finally got my private plates attached to my car today.

I keep getting asked "what's that car?" Hopefully this will answer their questions.

I dig the emblem. Where did you get it?

Thanks! That was already on there when I bought the car. I think I saw it on a Korean site for sale, but I honestly can't remember.
Looks like it is very repairable. Just curious -- who was at fault in this accident?

I was but there was no investigation as the vehicles were moved way before the officer showed up. The driver said he was making the left turn that was conveniently where the accident happened therefore since I was coming across 2 lanes of traffic (that was at a full stop) to get to the other lanes I was attempting to get to, I was in the wrong. Based on that 5 second explanation of the accident from the other driver, I was ticketed. However, my insurance said they're putting negligence on his vehicle because there's no way he was making a left turn like he said based on the position of his vehicle and the pictures of the accident.

I washed, scratch-outed, and vacuumed the interior for my Veloster's big 10th anniversary on Sunday the 17th! Then I took a few pix! Here's one!

She's still rough but got her mobile. Still too sketchy to drive but short 0.3 mile trips to Walmart for groceries aren't hurting. Changed the control arm, steering wheel airbag and tie rod end to get it moving. Soon, I'll be taking it in to straighten the frame, new fender, new headlight, new bumper and then redoing a seatbelt since it locked during the accident.
