I have a 2013 Hyundai Veloster GDI which is showing a warning on the LCD screen that says "Stop When Safe - Protection Mode Enabled" that appears only after driving for a few minutes.

Please let me know if this issue is serious and what could be causing this.

why don't you start your own thread? you've posted twice in threads that were hella old and no responses.

Prolly just perusing threads looking for interesting subjects and not realizing the age factor of the thread.

As a note tho, I sure wish posters that find correction for their problems, would in fact post their results.

It sure would add to the vault of knowledge of this site, not to mention how much more helpful it would be to the members, present and future.

Word! You help them, they get it fixed, and they don't even come back to say "Thank you"

I agree - happens so much...the OP finds a solution and simply moves on.

Yes I am a mechanic, and a customer has brought his veloster with the same problem, this happens if any of the clutches get hot, kindly try the car and see which of the gears behaves so, I mean is it the odd gears or even gears? After detecting try to swap the acutator to see if the problem moves to either gears, if it does, change the acutator. You can also reprogram and see if any changes come. If you don't see any changes, it means you have to change a whole clutch.

How do you reprogram

I know this thread is old, but I just had this issue come up on my 2013 Veloster. Flashed the warning and I pulled over. I google searched for any quick fixes, thinking this may be some programming error or something (I am no mechanic, and no idiot lights came on in the dashboard) to which I found 2 things I could try (again, I am NOT a mechanic, and only have limited mechanical experience i.e. oil changes etc) the 2 things are: turn off the car and let it sit for several minutes, in an attempt to cool down something in the transmission. (this didnt work) the other thing was to shift back and forth from Drive to Reverse and back again 3x to reset something.(did not work) So here I am, with my car being towed to the place where I purchased it (in April of this year, 2022) only for them to say they don't have the right equipment to completely diagnose it, but can use their diagnostic tool for a limited amount of things. Now my V is going to be towed after the weekend (its friday now) to a Hyundai dealership about 50 miles away. Oh, it's Thanksgiving next week too!
