Hi all, I really don't understand what is happening behind the wheel. We got in the car yesterday and the wheel had a rubbing sound and it appears some sort of yellow tag popped out behind the wheel. not sure how to post a video here

It's pretty annoying.

What does a clock spring do? And why is it now poking out after 10 years? AND are you sure i can just yank it out?

The clock spring is what your buttons on your steering wheel is wired to.. This allows the steering wheel to rotate.

very cool! i guess i never really thought about what was happening under all those buttons in the wheel. i’ll see if can somehow get a tool in there to yank it out.

Be careful, that clockspring is fragile

"Flicking it out" could cause more problems than you may be willing to deal with. Tread cautiously and my suggestion would be to have a new clock spring assembly in hand before you start any operation to retrieve that tag.

At 4:00 in this video, you can see the yellow tag on the new clockspring, but notice that the old clockspring doesn't have the tag on it. I don't think the tag does anything. You should be able to remove it with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Replacing the entire clockspring isn't necessary.
