Ive decided that, at the end of the year, ill be ready to start investing to make my 180whp vT a 300whp vT
I did a lot of research to come up with a general list.. let me know what you think...
Why? vT is an underdog with potential.... its a good looking car with a strong engine and a cheap price.
Cost... +/- 7000.00
So heres my shopping list: (since there are a plethra of options, ill keep it generic).
1. rims (looks, weight reduction)
2. tires (same)
3. crank pulley (weight reduction)
4. dry cell battery (weight reduction)
5. coilover + alignment (drop for reduced under airflow, tighten up for stronger pulls, looks)
Next bit is a tighter time frame, since the benefits wont show, and perhaps decrease performance without a dyno tune
6. ram or cold intake (still up in the air - to many arguments both ways about oxygen density vs. cold fuel = poor ingnition...)
7. FMIC (better airflow capacity for more boost and possible turbo upgrade)
8. High Flow Cat (I prefer this to a gutted cat, but lets see what my gain caps are)
9. CatBack
10. BOV (lets face it the oem bov sucks - and i dont need it failing with whats to come - i prefer sleeper status, so looking out for a quiet one)
11.Wastegate (same... i dont want failure in this category either)
Tune Time... my goal is to get 3 maps and 2 ecus...
one untouched factory map - stored,
two ecus... 1 eco tuned for best mpg (daily driver) and 1 300whp (weekend) tune...
12. 2nd ECU
13. Dyno Tune
14. Reflash kit (just in case)
Reinforcement: before i start pulling up to the line, i want to be sure i dont blow up cv joints etc...
15. Front tower Torsion Bar
16. upgraded control arms
17. Further undercarriage support.
18. Engine Mounts
19, Clutch ( might just burn out oem 1st)
Aerodynamics: the car is pretty tight - lowering it 1" will make it tighter.... I want super glue and reduced drag..
20. Front Splitter ( a proper splitter that i can adjust)
21. custom rear diffuser ( lets face it, the stock "diffuser" isnt a diffuser... its a plastic air scoup (reach under)
So, that a rough estimate of parts and cost (some labor, some DIY.. whatever i can get done w a floor jack and 3 ton jack stands and a tool set)
SO in summary...
I went for a bit of weight reduction, followed by bolt-ons, then tune and reinforcement/aero.. Ill prob run the daily driver till the reinforcements and upgrades to powertrain are made....
Im open to suggestions... Note: my comment on bullets 6 - 11 are based on a lot of industry folks' take on performance enhancements falling outside of factory flash threshhold, thus sensors not knowing what to do with the new intake/exhaust environment. In some cases, the bolt ons made lower numbers on low end torque vs. stock, from what i read.
