So, about 2 weeks ago I was driving down the highway and my check engine light started flashing while I was accelerating, and my car started to struggle to accelerate and it felt like the entire car was running out of breath almost (I don’t know anyway else to put it) but it stopped after a while and I though nothing of it. A few days later I was sitting at a red light and my engine started to shudder, it almost felt like the car was about to stall out but it never did. So I replaced the spark plugs, ignition coils, and put engine cleaner in the gas tank. This seemed to fix it for a week until it started to struggle even more to accelerate and it started to shudder even worse. The error codes state that cylinders 1 and 3 are misfiring (and occasionally cylinder 2 and 4 but it’s usually 1 and 3) and my engine has started to make a very different sound than normal.
Below is a link to a video I recorded of the sound the car was making to give an idea of what it is doing
Weird Engine Sound
Keep in mind that I have done 0 cosmetic upgrades to this car. The only parts that are not stock are the spark plugs, ignition coil, and both CV axels. I have tried to keep the car as close to stock as possible and even buy OEM replacement parts for things like the backup camera and Radio when they broke.
Please help me if you can, this is my first car and a new car isn’t really in the playing cards for me or my family.
Thank you.

Also when you pulled out the old plugs, did you notice any oil, gas, tip degradation on them? Could help with identifying the issue

My car at about 80,000 miles did this. Spark plug went out. Was burn orange around white ceramic part. Replaced all 4 and problem solved. But it was one cylinder not 2 at same time. Start with cheapest thing first. Rwplace the 2 plugs and if problem is gone, problem solved. Then rwplace the other 2 so thwy are all fresh.

Missfires are typically plugs or coil packs.

Had this exact issue on my 2012 none turbo manual trans velister. Engine stafted having a fit above 40mph and i was on the highway. By the time i pulled off tbe road i got cneck engine lights. It would run ok as long as i was easy on the RPMs.

Got to a parts store, i knew what it was already. Sure enough, my OBD2 said missfire on cylinder 2.

Replaced all 4 plugs in the parking lot, cleared the code and fine. This was at 80,000 miles almost on the nose. I then kicked myself for not changing them at 50k miles. All of them had burnt orange on the ceramic parts.

Usually i will swap them out on my previous cars every 40k just to do it. But i could not recall doing it on my Velister because it ran so well and no major problems uo to that point. Since then im now at 103,000 miles and had to replace both front hub bearings, 1 ball joint, replace then in 1 year repair and fix the design flaw in the AC fan spee control switch. Swapped the face of my Head unit with a similar unit that was not comostible when my touch acreen failed.

Rellaced the trunk ooen button on the back as wrll as the lifters.

Replaced the evap comonents on the engine and now have an airbag light for the passenger side airbag that Hyundai wont fix despite the recall.

The lesson? At 100,000miles Hyundai fall apart. Mine was gafage kept for 6 years low miles till i changed jobs. Now im just waiting on what breaks next.
