Hi everyone!

I have a 2019 Veloster Premium 2.0 with 23500 miles on it that I bought certified used last March. Just had the car diagnosed with a leaking passenger side rear brake caliper that's covered under warranty. Only issue is, service tech told me there is a huge shortage on this specific part and there's not a single one in the USA rn. I was told by them (and Firestone) that the wait time on the part is AT LEAST 1 month, but they can't guarantee it will even come then. I was also told I should avoid driving it until the part comes in.

Has anybody else had issues with a caliper and can't get the part?

Is it safe to drive the car if I keep an eye on the brake fluid?

Thanks!

A leaking brake caliper can be a dangerous situation. You could settle for an aftermarket caliper which is no difference from the OEM item. Only difference is that you will have to pay for it, and also for the installation. You might can negotiate with the dealer and see if they would install the aftermarket caliper as a warranty, but it's most likely not gonna happen.

Thanks for the quick response! I initially had the car diagnosed at Firestone who told me to go to Hyundai first to see if it'd be under warranty. I called them after I was told that Hyundai can't fix it right now, and they said that aftermarket wasn't an option and that they'd need to use a genuine part as well, which put them in the same boat as the dealer. So it sounds like an aftermarket part isn't an option for some reason?

any idea if you know it is leaking from where the brake line attaches to the caliper, or is it leaking from the piston seals?
