I wouldn't say running 2 resonators would be for nothing. I tried just 1 on my GSR and it was still far too loud for me. I ended up using 2-14" case Magnaflows and TIG'd them butt-2-butt and it dropped the noise considerably without affecting the flow. It also let me use NO sections of straight pipe, only 5 mandrel bends on that car too. I'm hoping to achieve the same thing here. They don't make 1 resonator as long as I want so 2 will work really good. I actually got the idea from the ITR that has 2 resonators and a muffler. Quites it right down without adversely affecting the flow. BTW, how do you figure 1 resonator will quiet the sound better than 2? That's like saying don't use 1 at all and it will quiet it better than 1. I don't follow you here. If you can explain your theory I'd love to listen... I've seen several vehicles with more than 1 resonator and more than 1 muffler. Yes, those stock units choke the crap out of the exhaust but they are super quiet. I'm loooking for a quiet normal drive and a moderately loud and deep tone under WOT. That's exactly what my GSR has and it sounds like nothing else on the road.

The Resonator is to control Mid-range Drone, And they are built straight thru..Most of them, Ours is straight thru.
Again, It's only a 1.6L Motor, To use two Res, 1 or 2 Cats and a muffler would be Reverse Logic, In my view. But, It's your project, So You gotta do it your way, I will never down talk someones Plan.

Yes, that's my exact plan, to control the annoying mid-range drone and by using 2 resonators that is exactly what will happen. That's where the engine is running @ highway speeds and I find it rather annoying to say the least. I want to have a slightly louder and much lower (deeper) tone at idle. Then I want it to get a little louder under moderate throttle and then hopefully only a little louder but much deeper without raspiness just like my GSR at WOT. Obviously this engine won't see 10k+ rpm but I want it to sound like nothing else on the road in its rpm range. The idea of the stock 2nd cat still perplexes me. I'm thinking the engine runs rather rich and need 2 to pass emission standards. Too bad someone can't develop a decent tune and lean down the map a bit to give a nice bump in power and mpgs. The drawback is the cat(s) won't fire off properly with a leaner mixture and will end up crapping out earlier than the OEM wants them to. Yes, this will be my project and I'll do things my way. I'm not being sarcastic or snarky, just being real about the fine details that I've found add up to a bigger and better picture taken directly from my experience in building very high flowing "quiet" exhaust systems. I'm also going to add in a few anti-reversion steps in the exhaust to ensure better scavenging and much higher flow rates than just one uniform diameter of piping. I do have the time and tools available to make this happen just how I want it to. I know most members unfortunately don't have this luxury. There are so many little fine details that really enhance flow that can be made to an exhaust it's simply amazing. You won't see most of them once the exhaust is on the vehicle but your engine sure will The same thing goes for the air-intake network. When properly designed they can actually achieve over ambient pressure into the TB. I proved that with datalogs from my GSR. On a side note, is it possible for you to make some sound clips of your car under WOT in 1st and 2nd gear? That's where the true colors of an exhaust system show Thanks.

I ran 2 inch pipe to replace that complete section of the exhaust back to the muffler. The resonator is very restrictive. I did this mod over 30K mi ago it yields 2 mpg and has zero drone at any hwy speed. Stop overthinking this mod and do it.

Do you guys have any more clips of how yours cars sound like? I am debating whether i should do the test pipe in place of the secondary cat, or take out a resonator... i dont want ricey loud, i just want my car to be A BIT LOUDER. I have an intake, but that is not enough sound, i dont want a lot of in-cabin noise, but i want it to sound good on the outside (again, not loud). My car is on a lease and i dont want to do any big crazy mods that will affect my lease warranties. Any suggestions? I already asked Variable in a pm, but i want other opinions too. Thanks guys!

Taking out the secondary cat might be a better idea i think... but is there a way to make it look really stock with a nice test pipe installed in place of the secondary cat? The resonator is more raspy it looks like...

Better flow and sounds better with the secondary cat taken out. Period.

Please Note that doing the test pipe alone, Might change the sound a bit. But you really should start at the muffler, Since it's a 3 or more chambered Sound and Flow Blocker. When I looked thru the stock muffler in daylight. I saw Nothing. So you might want to start with just the Muffler only. If you like the sound, Leave it, And be done with it.

well heres the thing... im currently on a lease and i dont want to change too much stuff because then it will become too noticeable and might cause some problems with the dealer. i think that if i take out the secondary cat, that will give me some sound and im pretty sure that a muffler shop can make it look unnoticeable that there was ever a pipe there or even a cat.. do u think that a tech guy at the dealership will notice it when he is changing my oil or doing something else to the car? i just dont want to **** up my warranties that i have on the car..

a muffler MIGHT do the trick... but what is a nice, very low key muffler, that wont be ricey WHATSOEVER, just a nice little rumble to it, not a lot of cabin noise, and so that it looks kinda stock? any ideas?

As Variable has already stated: Just get a Magnaflow muffler, have your local shop weld on some lead and exit piping and a flang and hangers and call it a day. You're leasing the vehicle and as you've already said don't want to raise any red flags for warranty purposes. When I first had my Acura GSR I put on a CAI, alternator and power steering pulleys, and an axle-back. I never had any warranty issues with the dealer. But that was 14 years ago and it was Acura, not a Hyundai.

as far as sound goes here is mine. the sound clips suck, but it gives you an idea, you'll just have to come to a meet. you can ask blakemoo how it sounds in person. i love the rolling to stop/idling rumble it gets. also,i think it sounds better now that everything has settled in.
