Just went to trade in my style v

    Just a heads up.

2 months ago appraised at 19k trade in value.

    Yesterday, 16k

I'm bummed but it is what it is I guess

Same dealer? Same car you were trying to buy?

appraised values mean nothing if the above info isn't the exact same. Even then, they're gonna low ball the 2nd time as they feel your are closer to considering doing it...and more likely to deal

Different dealer. I've been doing it from time to time as I like to do test drives of different cars when I'm bored.

Hate to poke a pin in yer balloon, but I've had similar differences in trade-offers from different Dealers only a few miles-apart, on the SAME DAY. (different car than the V, but still)

Some Stealerships are more generous than others.

Thas the thing...everyone will give you different estimates. So it's not like your car lost $3k in value. For all you know, the first estimate was rock solid. I have a salesman at a Subaru dealer like that. It's take it or leave it and usually more than fair. This new offer could be the type that likes to go back and forth...and for all you know he might go up to $18k. Most initial offers aren't the highest they'd give you.

I hate to be that guy, but this info doesn't really help anyone because of all stated above.

What car were you checking out though? I'm curious

It's a game that the dealership plays.

If they give you a high trade in value, then you may pay more buying the new car.

If they give you a low trade value, then you may get a better deal on the new car.

If a dealership can't make at least 1,000 to 1,500$ off a trade.. they will not budge. Don't let them pull the "Black Book Value" crap on you either, that is total crap. Look up the KBB value on your car, round it up even, then tell them thats what you want, they will come back with usually 5 to 6 grand less, tell them no, they will then come back with 2 to 3 less, but have in mind what they are retailing for first, figure out 1 to 2 grand less than retail, and that is probally the best you will get. Maybe if you are really lucky, and have something in High demand, that they car flip fast with little to no effort, you might get within 500$ of retail.

I read something one time about buying a car. When you go to buy a car, haggle the price of the car you are buying first without ever mentioning that you have a car to trade in. Get the new car value as low as you want to pay, then after you both agree on a number, mention the fact you have a trade in and work on negotiating a value on your trade in.

So that way you already have a great deal on the new car and then you can work on getting the best value for your trade in.

Ended up getting 19 for it after a bit of haggling. So no more v in the family.

It's been fun hanging out with you guys from time to time. Great community you have here. Good luck to all of you guys. I hope you get some killer aftermarket parts developed in the future.

    Take it easy

Man, 170 foot lb of torque in a car the size of a shoe is such a kick in the pants. Add to that the best exhaust note ever put in a small car (full turbo back exhaust is stock on the abarth. 1 cat no muffler or resonator) and its a great time.

It's plenty roomy. Just gotta spend a few days getting used to the Italian seating position.
