Hyundai/Kia admit to overstating MPGs on Most models

Hyundai, Kia Admit to Overstating Gas Mileage on Most Models | AutoGuide.com News

I wonder if the NA V or VT fall into this category??? This was a big selling point on both my purchases... I wonder if I would get money back for both VT and NA V?

    Thoughts?

details regarding the mileage errors can be found here... https://hyundaimpginfo.com/

The 2012/13 NAV and VT are on the list. looks like we loose around 2-3 mpg. I wonder if this will include the canadian cars as well.

Wow... Looks like I'm going to be getting some compensation for the old and new Velosters.

This does concern me some, as a big part of buying the original NA V was the economy. If I still owned it, I would be furious!

EPA find Hyundai overstated MPG. Veloster included!

Ok I've searched for this and found nothing...can't believe this isn't being talked about more.

Hyundai released a statement about this:
Sung Hwan Cho, president of Hyundai's U.S. technical center in Michigan, said the EPA requires a complex series of tests that are very sensitive and can have variations that are open to interpretation. The companies did the tests as they were making a large number of changes in their cars designed to improve mileage. The changes, such as direct fuel injection into the cylinders around the pistons, further complicated the tests, Cho said.

"This is just a procedural error," he said. "It is not intended whatsoever."

The 2012 Veloster is now rated at:
    Veloster 1.6L Automatic 29 38 32 27 35 30
    1.6L Manual 28 40 32 27 37 31
Owners can sign up for yearly refunds for as long as you own the car.

I was wondering the same thing. I am thinking the payout will be pro-rated since we have only had the NA for a year or less and they mention something about the entire ownership period in the statement.

This is a small change in MPG. Not enough to make me angry or wish i didnt buy the VT.

Now I won't feel so bad about getting such crappy milage. Lol.

It sucks that they overstated the MPG, but way to step up and take care of the customer.

I used their formula and I should get about $120 a year driving about 12,000 miles/year at the current gas prices.

My wife will get about the same for her Santa Fe Sport.

Registration site opens tomorrow, and then need to set up reminders to submit a yearly claim.

Well 27/37 with a 31 average makes more sense to me. I never saw higher than 35 on roadtrips and I was only going 65mph.

The calculator isn't up yet, but the example shows if you filled up at $4.10 a gallon for 15k miles you'd get back roughly $100. Isn't much, but that's nice. It sounds like you register and they send you a debit card that has funds added.

I love companies that own up to their errors. Instead of playing the blame game they just admitted to the error, the even brought out a program to allow people to get reimbursed the difference + 15% for the inconvenience on the error and thus it is so much easier to swallow, forgive and move on. It also really helps on the PR front for them instead of it hampering them. Very slick move.

I agree that it's good for them to make reperations on this, however because they are offering a program, because this may curb the possibility of the EPA mandating a harsher punishment. They are using the combined estimated MPG to compensate, and no driver I know of has a perfect 50/50 city to highway ratio, real world numbers would be more accomidating I would think, but also extremely hard to calculate fairly.
