So i was a very early member on here in late 2011 when I bought my veloster.
Thought I could close out with some final thoughts / reviews as my time as a veloster owner is coming to a close:
Problems I had during my ownership:
Under Warranty:
Loose molding piece
Rust under rear window wiper
Replaced touchscreen
Parking break loose (caused car to roll)
Not under warranty:
Broke rear caliper replacing breaks - impossible to find parts for reasonable cost
Rear back up camera problems recently
The car did fantastic on MPG, typically getting 30-40 mpg without trying, considering the miles I put on it, it did save me quite a bit on gas - probably $4000 over the past few years.
I do regret buying the car brand new as so much value was lost in the last few years, but for a small car it did its job getting me around, little fun to drive and saving me some money.
High cost maintenance I've had to do in 86k miles:
Bought snow tires (1x)
New summer tires (1x)
New brakes / rotors (1x)
Your "high cost maintenance" is stupid and irrelevant for the sake of this post. You'd be doing that for any car you purchased and is not worth mentioning.
The OP puts up a farewell post detailing an honest review about his six year ownership of a car, and you immediately insult him by calling it stupid & irrelevant because the wording doesn't meet your criteria. Must be nice being perfect all the time. Why are you even on this forum? Isn't it your wife who owns the Veloster? ...and then of course Tuns comes along and agrees with everything you say. It's almost like you're the same person.
Uh, that high cost of maintenance would have had to have been done on any vehicle you buy lol. At any rate, it's good that you enjoyed the vehicle while it lasted.
He's not saying that he wouldn't have incurred these costs on any other vehicle. Obviously at 80K+ you would incur those costs. He's just saying these were the most expensive costs.
He did great! And I totally get that us very first buyers probably did pay a little bit more than those who followed. No regrets here!
Drews - I meant it as a compliment to the car showing that it actually didn't require anything outside of warranty that any other car wouldn't have needed
Upon further review, I have no doubt that Drews and Tuns are the same person. Their constant two word derogatory posts are identical, they use the same constant arrogant verbiage, both rave about how Subaru is a superior car, and heck, they're both from Texas. Case closed.
On a funnier note - trading the car in tomorrow finally - check engine light pops on for the first time yesterday on my way home.
Overall I have no hard feelings for the car - had a handful of issues under warranty that could have been VERY expensive (ie head unit replacement) but the dealership was good to me.
I was surprised on the trade in value - but a friend just traded in his loaded '14 dart with 36k on it and the value was $1k less than the veloster. Which shocked the heck out of me
