    Exhaust tips? Stock or swap?

I don't think that I'm the first one to say it but I hate the muffler tips on the Veloster. I don't hate how it looks, I just hate you can never keep it clean. After taking mine of today to clean them Exhaust tips? Stock or swap?-uploadfromtaptalk1332895505786.jpg it comes out pretty clean, but looks horrid without them... Exhaust tips? Stock or swap?-uploadfromtaptalk1332895551701.jpg

I was thinking of the options of tips mounted on the pipe itself, but not sure of how it would look. Anyone else agree. Might just hit up a shop for some test fits. Idk... Thoughts people. Is there anything in Korea yet as a replacement?

    Thanks guys!

Time to put then back in...

Hey, it looks like you missed a spot! I'm in the process of designing my own exhaust but I'm going to keep the stock tips since they flow well with the rear design of the car. My exit pipe sections will most likely be oval or trapezoidal in shape much like the stock tips. This will be a complete custom fabrication and I'll be making the hangers, tips, and other parts myself.

Would love to see the finished product.

I removed the bottom portion, see if that removes some of the soot issue. I've been messing with it all day and honestly I cloud almost care less about it.

We have exhaust tips? I had forgotten all about mine after the first week of driving my V. Now they just blend in and you can't tell them apart from the rest of the plastic.

I'm getting the same reaction from my Veloster owning friends... Oh well. Flat black it is. Or Plasti dip them like everything else on the V's

Blakemoo, that's a different look, with the bottom section removed. I haven't messed with mine yet. Any tricks to removing? Are the pieces held in place with screws/bolts? Thanks.

To take the whole thing off it is 3 nuts and 5 bolts. All 10mm. To take of the bottom section it's just 3 10mm nuts. Takes less than 2 minutes appears (after 1 day) to have made a difference.

I'm pretty sure that if you add chrome tips you will still have the same "soot" problem. My '11 Sonata SE had the same problem on the factory dual chrome tips. I just wiped the tips off with a damp paper towel once a day. All SE's had the same problem.

The higher the compression the more likely hood of soot due to HC emissions. The Gamma 1.6L is at what, 11:1 compression? Same goes for the DI system. They run a bit richer than a typical FI system so the extra fuel gets burned-off in both cats and gets deposited down the exhaust system and exhaust tips. There really isn't much we can do about this besides clean clean clean the tips.

I have to agree about the soot issue. That is why mine have been plasti-dipped black for a few weeks now. I have not had to clean them since .

Would anyone be interested in a carbon fiber replacement or paintable fiberglass?

I'd be interested in a coating for the chrome that the soot doesn't stick to.

I'm just now peaking into modding but having composite exhaust tips just sounds like a really bad idea. Yea, they shouldn't melt like the license plate holders, but still the heat cannot be good for them.

Would the resin in either hold up to the heat? I'm thinking maybe not but you never know...

the resin should. they make CF hoods and intakes for cars. and that gets pretty hot under there.

    Very minimal sooting.

Remove the bottom piece.Exhaust tips? Stock or swap?-uploadfromtaptalk1333066732992.jpg
It pools condensation and that is what has been making the soot splatter out of the tailpipe.

I'll post again in another 100 miles. It's looking good though. How did no one else think of this... Try it out!

Do you have a picture of the plasti-dipped exhaust? I might want to try that at some point.
