Anyone else noticed this? Some driver's side door buttons don't light up at night.

Has anyone else noticed that these buttons on the driver's side door don't light up at night?

    1. Unlock/lock rocker
    2. Window lock button
    3. Side mirror adjustment 4-way button

I asked my dealer about it during my last visit and they told me that there's no backlight behind those buttons and that it's expected. I'm having a hard time believing that, though. Are all other Vs like this or was the dealer just trying to blow me off?

    Edit: grammar

Fair enough. I only noticed this when I was struggling to find out how to unlock the doors at night a few months after purchase.

Why should they light up? 2012 auto tech/style window buttons illuminate but, as stated, not the others mentioned. I have had no unruly passengers in the night that require me to lock the windows! And the mirror adjustment -- I will definitely make that during daylight -- but if necessary, you can push the overhead lights in the ceiling and you see it clearly. Really, I can do that one in the dark if I had to. It's a matter of familiarity and you won't have a need for these un-illuminated buttons to be illuminated.

I agree that it's a minor issue and familiarity will eventually lead me to not even look at the buttons. However, if it was Hyundai's design intent, it just seems inconsistent since all the other buttons in the car light up. I mean, I use the unlock/lock button much more often than that button that turns off the AC plug in the armrest. That one lights up at night.

I work in Quality Control for a large software company and if I ran into something similar to this at work, I would consider it to be an oversight by the designer.

Emilio06, hi, it is normal; also the back door don't have back lighting either. BTW, where do you live? You don't state that on your profile. What model did you buy?

Yeah I thought it was kind of stupid myself. A minor issue, but stupid nonetheless.

on my Trans Am it had a little "spotlight" shining down on the buttons from the door panel, but I added LEDs and EL sheet, looks good

but it must be something about the buttons that dont let them be backlit

It could even be a simple cost cutting measure. Sure it might only cost a few cents to add lighting there, but that adds up over millions of cars.

Personally, I dont have an issue with it. Im not going to be messing with the lock buttons much anyway especially when the car is moving. When parked, it only takes a second to look down or "feel" where the buttons are. I think with the big door handle where it is, you probably wouldnt see them lite up anyway.

I work in Customer Care for a large communications company -- what does where we work have anything to do with how the lights are lit? Like I said earlier, there are overhead lights that illuminate the door panel -- you will need to use that because the buttons you are using will not be backlit. And, sooner or later, it will be second nature for you to hit those buttons without any light at all (I hope).
