Truthfully, I haven't even used the door lock/unlock button. I shift to drive, the doors lock, i shift to park they unlock...magically!

The "problem" with the Veloster is that it looks like an exotic, expensive sportscar, but alas, our V's are just Accent/Elantra underneath the hotdang sheetmetal. We get A LOT of value but there are hints everywhere that we have economy cars. I don't miss some of the lighted buttons but I would like a glovebox light. BUT with 201hp, 33.1 avg mpg AND the gorgeous looks I can live without a light or two inside.

Doesn't work with the key in the ignition - car is programmed to ignore any fob commands in that situation.

I see no need to see the doorlock button. The car locks automatically when you start driving; the door unlocks when you use the doorhandle from the inside to open it.

I do use my passenger-side mirror when parallel parking, though - our curbs have metal "caps" that quite often are loose. I know what happens - from personal experience - when you accidentally get too close. I've replaced two tires (different vehicles) from gouging out the sidewall. However, after driving the car for almost 2 months, I know where the mirror control is...

If someone is in the backseat, you must unlock it before the door will open. Also, if you're picking someone up - the car does not unlock unless you pull the key from the ignition.

It should be illuminated, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Having recently driven a 2013 Santa Fe & a 2013 Sonata, it seems to be hit & miss with Hyundai when it comes to lighting the door lock/unlock buttons. The Santa Fe's buttons were all backlit, the Sonata's were not. It only bothers me on the Veloster when I'm driving and stop to pick up my wife. I either have to hunt for the button or shift into Park. I usually just shift to Park.

Captainofiron is right -- the locks on the driver's armrest are for the windows -- not the doors. The rear passenger door is like many other cars in that you manually slide a button to "childproof" the door from opening unless opened from the outside -- and the pro's and con's of that are numerous.

I am not a fan of locking windows but I have used it for my own amusement. And karma paid me back.

I had some really bad gas and my roommate at the time was riding along with me. I locked the windows! LOL Many years later, I was repaid in the same way! I had to laugh -- I had done it -- and deserved the payback.

Mine has two "lock" buttons on the driver's armrest. One which locks the windows from opening, the other which locks/unlocks all the doors. They are next to each other and just above the front window controls, door lock button to the left, window lock button to the right.

this is how mine is, the lock is about 2-3 inches forward of the window controls (but not illuminated)
