You might be ok for the first season on your OEM 17's but I HIGHLY suggest you get some 15" snow's for next season. I'm running on 15" General's AA's and they are magnificent in the snow/ice.
Here in Vancouver BC we have not had snow but maybe later. I'm in no hurry though those who want snow drive up to the mountains.
Hmmm, one thing my V and I never have to deal with.
had a freak snow storm the other morning in northeastern pa. I can say it was a pleasant experience. The stock 18" rims and tires were about as useful as well... they were not at all useful. haha. time to order some snows
My V with its stock tires handled just fine this morning following our 14 inches. Of course, the snow was mostly plowed, but there were piles here and there and the streets were definitely not clean.

Still haven't put my winters on but here in Edmonton I'm just laughing at the weather as I drive on by.
Hell I've only had to skid to a stop once.
Wheres a good place to pick up a set of 15 inch steelys?
If you're gonna get 'em this season you better get 'em now before they're all sold out! I got mine this past January and all steelies were sold out nationwide so I got some Moda M9 alloys through the TireRack for like $59 each I believe. Steelies would have been less...
im rocking snows on my base 17s and kind of sad that its still 45-50 degrees in massachusetts.

All snow and no go........waaaa wa waaaaaaaaaaa.....![]()
Had one brief snowfall here in Ontario about a week ago. Wet slushy type and the OEM 18" tires on my VT were hardly the best. Not bad cornering or accelerating, but horrible stopping. My Hankook iPikes are going on this weekend.
I briefly drove my Genesis the same day with its summer tires still on it. Not the brightest thing I've ever done before lol. Parked it and got the wife to come and pick me up.

I still don't like how the brakes feel in the car when the ABS kicks in....I'm not confident in them at all in the snow.
That said, handling otherwise isn't terrible in the snow. Especially with the Continental winters I got last year
Stopping is always the problem. Mostly for the guy behind you.
I realized last night that there is actually a solid 1+ inch of ice on the streets here. And stopping is a bitch--impossible for crap tires, bad for decent ones. This is the first time I've ever had an ABS on my car. It's really weird, but effective. Acceleration from a stop is a bugger, too. Especially at a short light. Last night, I was doing better than most, except for those with all wheel drive. I probably could do better with actual winter wheels, but I'm doing pretty good with the stock. Until I sell my old car, there's no budget for a separate set of wheels, anyway.

I'm ready for some of that if it ever shows up.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but I've got to say it anyway...
Tires are the absolute NUMBER ONE most important thing on your car. Period.
Safety anywhere in my personal life is the absolute most critical part of the day, any day, everyday, no matter what. There is no excuse for not having a good set of tires (snow or otherwise) on your vehicle. If your budget doesn't allow this, you need to modify your spending habits to accomodate this.
I've seen far too many winter time crashes associated with incorrect tires for the weather. Is less than $1000 (typically $700~800ish) really worth possibly fubar'ing your life, your freinds and/or families lives along with your car and other persons involved and/or other personal property involved in the accident? One word... NOPE.
In Northeastern NY we have some pretty wicked winter weather at times. I will NEVER drive my personal vehicles a winter without snow tires.
Just my $.02.
fellow GTA drivers, looks like its gonna be another light slushy winter.....
Quebec has the right idea... winter tires are mandatory and studs are legal.

Winter tires mean absolutely dick all when you still have poor driver training and you have drivers who think winter tires suddenly let them drive like its a hot summers day where you'd have the maximum traction possible.
Not discounting winter tires, but don't think they automatically would solve all crashes. Stupid people will still be stupid.

Don't worry, those people can't be helped even during the summer days...
Having the proper equipment on your car is just the most obvious due diligence and considerate things one can do. Heck it isn't even about being considerate it's about not being stupid. It's no different than owning anything else, if you can't keep up with the bills and up keep for the home for example than that home is either out of ones means or they need to better prioritize their spending. Whether it be tires, brakes, rotors, suspensions, wipers... ANYTHING!
As much as skill and proper equipment will greatly reduce accidents for the common driver one other factor continues to be a great contributor to everyone's daily safety and that is licencing offices/test driving centres and the lack of legislative standards to ensure a car is safe for the road. Say what you will, but when people aren't responsible enough with the power and freedom they have to maintain a safe driving vehicle than someone else should legislate it in for them. I hate that idea because it really isn't fair to those who are good drivers, keep up with maintenance and necessary repairs and properly prepare their vehicles. However, the greater majority need the babying and it is all about the majority (it is such a shame). As driving has become more of a "need" (at least that's what people argue and think they need) the rules should be stricter not more lenient when it comes to driving tests. I've seen some outrageous things happen at those centres and the people who pass to get their licences to the point you'd think their was no standard. I sometimes wonder... Would it also kill them to have an indoor driving centre where they could reproduce certain driving conditions?... Money this money that, they make a hell of a lot of money from licencing and these drive tests. Also, some sort of standard for retesting really needs to take place...
I really try to be neutral most of the time but when it comes to having a proper and safe equipped vehicle and drive testing, I think it is just the responsible thing to do.
