Keep it gangster.
That seems like quite a time between the changes
Really? i don't see that, im schedule for 6000km changes. The freaking mini coopers here are for 12 000km changes haha.
Mine in USA says 7250 miles....I go about half that
Mine says every 3750 miles or 7500 miles, depending on the driving conditions.
Truth be told, the OEM Hyundai oil filter is warranted for up to 7500 miles, NOT the oil. I'm very pro-pm and would never go over maybe 5k miles on dino oil and maybe 10k miles on synthetic oil.
While there are some oils that are guaranteed to go 10k and even 15k miles those are few and far between. I've gone as far as 6500 miles on the synthetic oil in my V but doubt I'll ever go beyond that since I live in a climate that is considered "severe" regardless of my driving style.
Oil changes vary by area -- warm climates may be seen as "extreme" and require more frequent oil changes. I would use the oil change schedule your dealership recommends as that is going to make or break the warranty.
The myth about every vehicle in every climate needing oil changes every 3k miles has long since been debunked. Modern oil, filters, and engines themselves long ago stopped needing fresh oil this frequently. The manual for my VT suggests every 7500 and I will be sticking to exactly that. Seeing as Hyundai warranties the engine/trans with the 10 year/100k mile warranty, and they are by far more knowledgeable about this vehicle than any of us could ever hope to be, I'll be following their recommendations.
yep and me, 12,500k in uk.
I'm still not seeing why the thread title has the "really???" comment
7-8k mi is considered a very normal standard service oil change interval, why would anyone not expect Hyundai to have it listed as such?
I know plenty of folks will chime in and swear that changing the oil every ## miles is the best, but the fact out there is that manufacturer that gives a 100k mile powertrain warranty in the US is saying every 7k (give or take a few) is an acceptable interval for standard service.
p.s. and this is why every car forum should have an Oil sub-forum so folks can debate this in as much depth as they desire![]()
off to the the dark side
The interesting part is when I got my touchscreen replaced last week everyone at the dealership said it's absolutely crazy to go beyond 5k miles on an oil change with conventional oil or 10k miles with synthetic. I agree with them since my location allocates "severe conditions".
There are many debates on this as diane has stated. But, I'll stick to my regemin as I know it to work for me and my driving condtions. In a previous car Blackstone comfirmed my schedule as being right for me. There's not much more to say after they confirm what I already knew in my own personal case.
My Canadian V has oil changes every 6000 km
I'm still waiting for Cold Fusion to become a reality so we no longer need to worry about these dang OCI's anymore!!
I'd say with BMW they must have some Dipstick Engineers if they no longer have dipsticks! That's just asking for el crappolla to happen!!
The more we put in the hands of the computer the more we're asking for it. Just remember Skynet...
Manual says to change around 7,500 miles (about 12,000 km). I change about this time w/o worries. If I'm driving in dusty terrain, I'll change earlier. If the manufacturer says it's ok for 7,500, it's good enough for me.
Not sure why this is so shocking. The 3k miles thing was never very accurate and has become increasingly fallacious as engine, filter, and oil tech has improved. I changed the oil in my 20 year old Supra every 3k because I drove the CRAP out of her. hard. An oil analysis of that oil showed it still had about 40% of its life left. That was in a 20 year old iron engine making 320hp, not a brand new, high tech engine making well under half that power.
I'd wager that if anybody springs for an oil analysis after 7500 miles, their oil will still have pretty significant life in it.
I have mine changed every 3750 miles (6000 kilometers), not because I "believe" that oil nowadays is the same it was in 1982, but because I bought a service-plan, and it's already "paid for". It would be Stupid of me to not take advantage of my plan.
BTW, I did the Math on this one: if I can keep my interval to ~4000 miles or less, and don't miss any Services - I'll come out about $185 "ahead" than if paid "piecemeal" (assuming the cost of these services does not rise - which they will).
Parfois, on fait pas semblant!
In Australia the oil change is every 15000km or 12months, whichever comes first. This car has a 5yr unlimited kilometre warranty, so it will be getting its oil changed every 15000kms as the book says.
