    Australia

    Hi All

First post, just curious as to weather there is anyone out there in Australia with a Veloster on order yet? Any information to share?

I've got my fleet manager keeping me up to date so i can hopefully jump on a white veloster asap after release. Timing wise might be a bit tricky, i've got my first born on the way so i might have to delay delivery a month or 2 while i deal with that.

My last 3 cars have been VW's (1 Polo GTI, 1 Golf GTI, 1 Golf TSI 1.2 Turbo - the current wife's car - i'm presently carless) and i've had a Hyundai in the past (1996 Excel back in 1998) so keen to get back in a Hyundai. My only concern is a turbo/fast model coming in later down the track... i'll want that instead

    Cheers
    Matt

hey Matt, welcome to the forum ;-P

There's a few of us around, all waiting patiently for the australian launch on the 12th of Feb! If you've a faceboook account, don't forget to vote in the competition to win one - links on the Hyundai oz website. I've got my fingers crossed hoping that the price is right and we don't get ripped off like usual. My heart's set on a base model, not the turbo - i'd prefer the fuel economy instead of the speed, coming from the speed-camera nanny state Victoria!

I'm surprised you'd be so keen for another hyundai, having owned an excel! Did you like it better than the VW Gti cars?? Wow.

My brother worked in Australia for a few years. Loved it. Up in Cairns. Veterinary orthopedic surgeon. He actually did a spinal repair on your second most deadly snake. A 10' coastal taipan.

Welcome Matt. As said, there are a few of us about. Search out "AU" to see our discussions. Excitement is building. All the dealers I have spoken to have very little in terms information or the chance to pre-order or the like. However, I am sure things will soon change with the vehicles supposedly already on shore and sales staff training.

hey matt welcome to the forum !!

Yeah expect to see it all ramp up in the coming weeks .. I would say early feb you can start talking seriously to dealers as they will have had their training as wb said .. until then they have been pretty much clueless ..

As for previous Hyundai's - I owned a Excel from '95 (which my sister is still driving with few issues) then upgraded to a Lantra in '97 (which went for 9 years before I traded for a Citroen C4) .. and both cars were excellent !! So I have no qualms getting into another one ..

That said - I swore I'd never own another Hyundai again (mainly just to drive something different) .. until I laid eyes on the V

Touched base with a couple of the dealers I have been talking to in the last week. Apparently training is still to occur and there is still little info they can share. One dealer indicated he has taken a deposit on the first Veloster to arrive at the dealer (does not matter color or model!). Personally, I want to test drive before laying down a deposit.

Unfortunately, things have changed for me since the start of the year, so sadly I will need to wait until at least mid year to buy my V. As disappointed as I am, it may work out if the Turbo version is close to release by then.

The dealer I last spoke to indicated he might have more information in the days leading up to the release (after their training is conducted). Whether they are willing to share this info is another thing. I am a little disappointed Hyundai Aus has not given out any info to those who registered on their website. Not even the release date or the Facebook competition.

Personally, I think pricing will start at about $26000 and go to over $30000 for the fully loaded unit. I am hoping it will be cheaper, but early adopters always cop full whack.

Only clue on price is the one they are giving away:

    T&C
One (1) Hyundai Veloster 1.6L Premium Manual Active Hatch plus on road costs, including dealer delivery, registration and CTP for 12 months, and other Government charges and Metallic paint (at the prize winner’s request). Maximum value of the first prize is AUD$30,000.

That'll likely make it too expensive for me. For 30k there are plenty of options. The base is 17 in the US. Love living in the lucky country.

So if it is around 30k, what other cars could you look at that will have the same options and features and looks good?

I ask because my budget is also 30k but I can't find much else around that I like. Perhaps the new Swift sport may be option is it comes out very soon, or else wait for the i30.

It all depends whether this model designation is the base model, or a fully loaded one. If it's fully loaded, at less than 30 grand including onroads and a metallic paint charge, that puts the advertised price at, what, $26,990? That sounds like a bargain to me. Although if it was the base model (and i suspect it is) that sounds very dear and I would hope then that the real price is well below 30k.

It's not a good idea to compare US car pricing because I suspect their base model is not as well kitted-up as ours will be. I think our models will be similarly equipped to the UK ones. Their Veloster starts at £17,995, which sounds like a lot of money, but that's actually including on-road costs, and equates to $26,500 AUD. If that were the on road price for the veloster, that would put the advertised price at about $23,990 plus on roads, and that's not too bad. Pure speculation of course, and us aussies do always get ripped off ;-)

well that competition model of 'Premium Manual Active Hatch' is totally confusing since Hyundai Australia has released the new Elantra in 'Active', 'Elite' & 'Premium' as the 3 models from lowest to highest spec .. so it could mean anything lol ..

But if it is <$30k all up inc. on roads then its definately NOT the Premium model (or whatever will be top spec) .. I wouldnt expect much change out of $34k or so for a fully spec'd V .. give or take with Manual/Auto choice ..

I agree with Age.R, sadly I fear the top spec will be close in cost to the Citroen DS3 approx $34000. Maybe a bit cheaper and fully kitted to attach the interest. The way I understand it, the V is priced to be a higher profit margin product for dealers. It won't be a volume seller like the Accent etc, so it will have a higher margin. Sadly, if the the top spec is in the $32000 to $34000 range, the dollars will be a big put off despite the looks and tech. Still, I want one but I can only justify the cost to around $30000 fully loaded.

wb .. I think your correct a fully loaded with DCT & On Road Costs it will be around the price you are suggesting .. but you said your gonna wait a while anyway so by the time you need to buy I reckon with a bit of bargaining (and/or Manual version) you'll be fully loaded under <$30k nicely ..

Ah, well done sir! I dropped in at my local dealership today to investigate, but they still haven't done sales training so they had no idea!

I am very interested to read that the base model will have leather bolstered seats. I'm not keen on full leather if I'm honest, but cloth centre/leather sides would be perfect. Are you sure the base wheels aren't the 17 inch ones though? This seems incredibly well-specced for an Aussie-spec car.
