Nice heads up nac! I must of checked that website four or five times today before the update. The dealers I have spoken too have pretty much ruled any haggling over the prices, may a few little extras could added at an special price. Looking at the specs sheets, there is a lot of kit for the bucks - even a spare wheel (most likely space saver, but better than a can of sealant). The inclusion of projection headlights is really nice on the plus, given the comments on light performance elsewhere in the forums. Love the heated and electronic folding mirrors - seriously cool and handy in Melbourne's winter. The inclusion of 18"s on both model is a nice surprise, although I hope the ride is not too rough given the state of some of the roads in Vic. Can't wait to test drive. Might drop by a dealer on the weekend and test a accent and elantra to have something to compare it too.

I work at a place where I regularly park next to Mercs, BMWs, Audis etc. I wonder what the reaction will be when its not the 20 year old basic that appears, rather the V.

I can already see some stupid comments on the local car websites. I think some just don't get it, it is not a performance car. I think it needs to be compared to other small economy cars in the same price range, such as Civic etc. With the Veloster you get a lot more features for the same money.

Totally right nac. And given the perceptions of the generations brought up on over powered larger cars, I can see it coming. It is not designed to be a "hot hatch" or fashion statement. It is a carefully thought out car with something genuinely different from the run of the mill offerings of the more popular manufacturers.

You were looking at the caradvice article? Same. These people don't seem to understand that there is more to a vehicle than power alone. As far as I'm concerned, if a car can accelerate adequately for daily use, get to 110kmh, and cruise at that speed comfortably, it has enough power and does not need any more. It's not meant to be a track car, for goodness sake. An enourmous amount of power in a car is not attractive at all to me. These commenters, who clearly don't understand the Veloster at all, are the ones giving vehicle enthusiasts a bad name, because their attitudes toward cars (and possibly also their driving habits) are simply hoonish.

    Okay rant over ;-)

Dealer told me they should have some cars in next week. So I'll have to drive it and see for myself. I think it will be fine as my commuter.
I need to see the colours too. I was originally thinking of getting white but now I'm leaning towards red (metallic).

Have you seen the promotional pics hyundai gave out in its press release today? The orange and green in the pics looks wicked!

See this: NewsMaker - Introducing the all-new Hyundai Veloster - cool coupe or smart hatch?

The pictures are at the bottom.

The orange does look nice. I used to have an RX4 many years ago in a brown colour, I am bit concerned that when not in the sun it may look a bit "browny"....

Yeah, i've always thought that the orange in all american photos looked a bit too brash and bronze for my liking, so i think we may have a slightly different shade of orange to them. It looks just a tiny bit more pastel in these photos, and it makes the whole car look more expensive

Excellent specs and pricing Hyundai Aus - you exceeded my expectations so well done !!!!

Love that the touchscreen has the Blue Max Eco Guide as well - a nice added bonus taken from the upspec American head unit ..

Why doesn't it have satnav? Just curious. After having a bit of a think about it the prices aren't as bad as they could've been. Wouldn't mind having a test drive in the future.

Because Hyundai are somehow incapable of the licensing or whatever is required to get it working here .. hence why none of their cars to date have had any form of touchscreen .. simply leaving it out instead

Thank goodness sense prevailed and they kept the touchscreen in the Veloster for its other features .. it really would have been ridiculous to be the only country to rip it out in favour of a digital clock simply because they cannot offer the satnav option ..

Rumor has it by time the turbo comes out they may finally offer it ..

i've been trying to track down a decently priced WS/WT ford fiesta. Most of the owners of 3yo exmaples with no warranty, almost no rego still want only $3k off the new car price and then i've got to re-register and pay stamp duty... friggin dreamers. The ones that are reasonably priced are often repairable writeoffs etc..

Then i'd want to put rims and decent tyres on it, totally new stereo system.. etc..

Its tough, i'm forcing myself to buy a cheaper car due to the family going to 1 income but i dont really NEED to buy a cheap car, so its making me incredibly picky.

I figure if hyundai will sell me a veloster for rrp driveaway (ie 23990 on the road - i'm aware the price is +orc but i'm a fleet manager and if i cant get one cheap, i'm not very good at my job) and the car comes standard with 18s, a stereo i'm going to be reasonably happy with (perhaps change out the stock speakers) and all i'll have to do is spend $250 on tint and a hundred bucks on mats, i'm in.

Any idea on what Hyundai's national fleet discount would be on the Veloster?

    Nothing exciting happening at Nunawading.

Perhaps that are all holding off for the release on Sunday.
