Still waiting for a turbo automatic to come in

I test drove a Turbo manual about three weeks ago and was not thrilled with it. I would like to try an automatic. The salesguy said he would let me know when one came in. I stopped by there today and still nothing. I said to him half kiddingly, 'Do you get a Turbo about once a month?'. He said 'If we're lucky'. Holy cow!!! No wonder they charge a premium. I didn't realize it was that difficult to get the Turbos.

I do feel for you, wbw. That's why I monitored Chuck's list in August and jumped on my Ultra Black Turbo Automatic when it arrived on 9/1. At first I wondered if I acted too hastily but have come to realize I acted just in time! Hang in there...yours will come -and what a sweeeeeeet moment that will be!

not looking good for chucks list at this point. hope everythings alright with our buddy. but in case your kinda new to this, in a a nutshell, yes they are hard to get right now, mostly because of a short strike that was settled a few months ago. i'm sure they will become more available as time passes but that doesn't help you right now. all i can really say to anyone looking right now is this: don't listen to most moronic salesman who only want to put in effort with cars presently on their lot, find the young go getter, tell him you're ready to buy, talk to the gm personally and tell him you want the salesman you chose to have access to anything in the area.
get this rapport going with the few dealerships closest to you. whoever works the hardest to get your car will have the sale. find the guy (or girl) that doesn't mind working a little harder than the other guy. hope the dealer/s you 're working with at least have a preference in with hyundai for your car. remember, you can't order one, your dealer can only preference one. good luck, be patient.

rt44 - At this point, I'm not actually ready to buy. I just would like to know whether or not to keep the VT on my mental list of next cars, or take it off. That's why I want a test drive. But I was just amazed that the turbos are coming in so infrequestly.

I really want to like this car.

can't imagine you'd be any more amazed with the auto. most here are trying to get the mannies. after driving a '12 na-v for 5 months ( with auto dct) i can say that it feels so much better having control of that gearbox with the man.

I hear you. I drove manuals for years. But everything was purely mechanical back then. Nowdays everything has a sensor or switch of some sort attached to it. I don't think it helps the experience. Plus. maybe I'm just getting lazier now that I'm older. I'm just looking for a fun car that has a little bit of 'get up and go'.

that was what i wanted with that dct, but the thing had a mind of its own, at the worst possible times, i hate that. i agree for a dd, or a lot of sitting in traffic, mans are no fun, fortunately mine is mainly weekend run arounds, so i'm diggin the control.

That's why I want the test drive. I want to see how much of a 'mind of it's own' the torque converter auto has. I understand that there is a 'sport' setting to the auto. I'm interested to see how that works.

The other two cars I'm considering are a little more hard core. Focus ST. Looks like a hoot to drive, but only comes in manual and requires premium fuel at roughly 40 cents more a gallon. Other car would be a used Mitsu Ralliart. They have the DC tranny and all wheel drive. Premo fuel there also and I'm guessing real expensive bills if there are tranny problems.

The VT is much simpler. Just don't how much fun it will be.

the vt doesn't come with dct anyway, shifttronic, so can't say what thats like, but dct is junk.

Hearing these stories makes me more thankful that I have my car. I was so fortunate to have picked up my VT without the hassle of searching high and low for the color/transmission of my choice.

Were any of Chuck's postings considered "priority information"? I saw him the last time I took my car in for the car mileage verification. He's a very nice guy. But corporate may not have liked his postings...

Never had the opportunity to drive or buy a Manual VT, however I was able to test drive at least three autos and I ended up buying the last one. I like the trans alot better in "sport mode" than in eco mode and as far a performance goes it's really pretty good IMO. Shifts are quick and smooth. Give it a try when you get the chance, I wished I had the option to choose. I might have liked the manual, if nothing else but for the difference in overall price.
