Question Really like the Veloster but am getting high insurance rates! What do you pay?

I fell in love with the Veloster after seeing and test driving a 2012 Black with red interior w style and tech package. The only think that left me was that I felt the car needed more power. Poof - I see there is a Veloster 2013 Turbo!

I have not been able to find one to test drive yet as I am working in New York but live in Florida. I plan on purchasing it outright cash. I hate payments and car dealership finance scamming. I really do like the look of the 2012 a little more... I'm not to fond of the big black blocky intake on the front of the turbo but 131 to 200hp is a big deal and I bet they fixed a few other things.

So I have been shopping around for a 2013 black ext / blue / black interior w ultimate and int blue lighting package. Gotten some good quotes I want to pay 23 or 24k cash including tax tag and title and leave with it, but I am getting pretty high insurance rates for West Palm Beach (I will occasionally drive to NY and back but it will be registered in FL).

What are you guys paying for insurance per year? Did you buy it flat out or are making payments? What level of insurance are you carrying I want the minimal for Florida but I guess I should have some comp & collision, but I'll do max deductibles. I've never been in an accident.

I haven't been driving my own car for a few years just been renting cars so maybe thats what's doing it but I expected $1000 a year (I'm in my thirties) and it's coming out way higher if not double. Best I found so far was around $1450 a year on esurance.

Other questions. For those of you who have driven both the 2012 regular Veloster and the 2013 turbo - is the turbo really worth all the extra cash? I could probably save about $5000 getting a 2012. I am getting manual trans. Any other advice and saving money and or things to new for prospective new owners would help. I had a Elanra GT from 2004 to 2007 and loved it. This 2013 black turbo with blue int lights looks like something out of tron or a mini bat mobile.

    Thanks!

OK woahhh this is what I want? How?! What insurer? Are you just taking minimal? Meaning no theft or collision? Just state minimal?

    Thanks

Travelers corporation. Standard stuff including collision. I have a very clean record.

Auto insurance, the true apples and oranges discussion of all time... Very region specific, too region specific actually for anyone to help you unless they are within your area. Good luck.

yep, and the OP being from Florida doesn't get that a person in California can't be used for comparison.
It's a hard lesson, but if you're paying high rates, there's a reason.

I can't figure it. West Palm Florida is not a 'dangerous' area. I have a completely clean license. Only issue is I haven't had a car for a while so I haven't had insurance. Just been renting spending a lot of time in New York caring for an elderly uncle.

Even within the same state rate could be totally different. I moved from Houston to Austin and my auto and home insurance are both some 50% lower.

I will chime in on the VT opposed to the NAV. We have both, both 2013's and if you at all want a feeling of performance I would defintly recommend the VT. If yor intrest is in economy then the NAV will probably do. It's a significent difference. I climb a moutain each day and the rpm and gear ratio (Both Automatics) are completely different. The NAV really winds up, the VT pulls the hill with less stress. Economy in our cars is about 10mpg different. NAV may be just fine on flat ground, but I deffintly recommend the additional up front costs for the added performance. Long term savings in fuel with the NAV.

I am getting the same fuel economy with the VT as I did with my 07 Tiburon SE 2.7 V6.

Insurance rates are way to high for the Veloster. Generally the same as a Genesis Coup, at my company. I had to leave an insurance company I was with for 28 years over the rates of the Veloster, I would not pay the same rates for an economy hatch as a 348HP 2Dr rear wheel drive Genesis Coup track. Just was not going to happen. My recommendation is to shop around and re-evaluate every 6mo.

I'm in NJ with Teachers Insurance (for educators) which is a division of Plymouth Rock. I pay $83 and have super legit insurance - ie what my 60 yr old parents have. Very comprehensive. If you have a gap then you're probably paying a penalty for it. Also, I used to have State Farm but my policy there (on another car) was $50 more for same insurance. They are just simply too much.
