My dealer said spares for other models, even the VNA, won't fit. I have tried to find a place in Canada that sells the spare, but no luck. Has anyone else thought to check Canadian sources and been successful?
I took delivery of my new red VT on Friday 11-9 at 6 pm. By 9 pm I had a flat. I thought that I'd just get out the wheel lock key, jack and spare to change the tire. NOT! I was flabbergasted to not find a spare tire. To think that one would need a tow every time one got a flat is ludicrous. Shame on Hyundai and the dealer as I was never informed that there was no spare tire. In any case, I called the dealer and purchased an entire kit consisting of the jack, tire and wheel, and lug wrench. All, according to the parts manager, fit into the VT rear wheel well. As I was tired of dicking around with this crap I just paid what they asked - $299.99 + tax. I am disappointed in Hyundai for forcing buyers to pay extra for a spare.

This is not a Hyundai specific issue, many manufacturers are going this way and will continue to do so for the cost and weight savings. Same answer here as your other rant.
It's the sign of a lazy dealer if they didn't prep the car and go through things like the compressor flat fix kit.
off to the the dark side
True, I just discussed this with Hyundai Customer Service. They seem to be relying on the Road side assistance to fix your flat also. I told them that I may not want to hang around in some places waiting on help from them, when I can change to a spare in less than 3 min! (if I had one.))
And other than some catastrophic tire failure, what situation would need a spare tire more so than the "puncture sealant" + air compressor kit that's already included for free?
I've been across more incidents in where I'd prefer to just put some slime in there and fill it up and get tona tire place rather than get myself all dirty and sweaty trying to switch out to my spare, which is for all intents and purposes a temporary fix as well.

Another good way to look at it! The kit is included and they do tell ya that. I was "assuming" it was an extra feature, not a complete substitute.
And with these cheap ass Kuhmo tires the flat maybe catastrophic!!

Rant? I think not. Rant: To speak or write in an angry or violent manner; rave. v.tr. To utter or express with violence or extravagance: I'm expressing my opinion and personal experience. Just because Hyundai chooses to join other irresponsible manufacturers in not providing a spare does not excuse them; Using tire sealant - I'm informed - is detrimental to a tire and the tire must be replaced. If a small puncture causes a flat do you want to pay $200.00 for a new tire? I do agree that the dealer - whether lazy or forgetful - should have covered this issue when delivering the car. My wife just bought a new car - 2013 - and it comes with a spare tire. I am still disappointed with Hyundai and if you could take a poll on this site regarding this specific issue I'm quite sure most others would be disappointed as well..

Didnt we have this same discussion a year ago with the normal V?
A steel wheel with a decent tire on it could be easily found at a auto wrecker for under $100. A Hyundai jack and tool kit on ebay for $50.

Ha Ha now I get to say "Read your owner's manual."
It destroys the tire pressure sensor and is ONLY for one time use Not to exceed 50mph for 4-6 miles, then stop check tire pressure again..... ""OMG"" Just give me a spare tire!!" <-- Thats what you are thinking now!

That is odd to say the least. Are you sure you have a real Veloster? Not a counterfeit item or similar?
According to my manual, you can drive a distance up to 120 miles at a recommended speed of 50 mph.
And it says right there that as long as you are using the one provided by Hyundai your TPMS will be fine. Now if you were to use a sealant NOT approved by Hyundai then you might be SOL.
And sure, it's good for 1 time use cause there is enough sealant to cover the whole inside of the tire once.
Oh and BTW, mine came with a spare tire
Although I would happily trade my spare for the compressor kit. Hell I can fit four bottles of sealant in that same space and be set for all 4 tires, drive trough a nail factory and still make it home. While with just my spare and can only change 1 tire and still be screwed.

MTD, I have not been able to track the part number in your picture. Hyundai does not recognise it. Where did you get your spare? Better yet, where can I get one?
I am confused that Hyundai claims to be working on a spare for the VT but you and others claim that tires/wheels that "fit" are available.......
Because my car is Canadian, our V comes with a spare. Im going to guess that the part # is different in the US.
A Sonata steel wheel will fit. There are a few people using them for winter wheels. You could even use a non-Hyundai steel wheel as long as the specs are similar.

In 4 years I never used the spare that came in my Dodge Charger.I doubt I'll miss it in this car.
Spooling up.
In true north of the border fashion here in the GTA, but "you never know"... Let's keep that spare, just in case... We do have roadside assistance for the first how many years? I think we have a little too many, just in case resources...
Cleodora: 2013 Ocean Blue Velo(bike)ster Turbo
Aegis - Diode Dynamics - Enkei - FormulaOne - Injen - Meguiar's - Michelin - Mobil 1 - Mobis - Muteki - Nokya - Rain-X - Rally Armor - Stoner - WeatherTech
In the what it's worth department...my 2011 SRT Challenger, 2004 SRT Crossfire, 2004 SSR, and 2013 Turbo Veloster...none came with spare tire. At first I was a little concerned. However haven't ever needed a spare on any of them. I do carry a tire repair kit in each of them though.
seems pretty lame doing away with the spare, it's hard to believe.. a sealant kit in the place of a spare? lol.. if you have a problem on the road it's normally a blow-out kind of thing.
I just got a spare from the dealer after waiting since June 2012. But this is for the base DCT version. I was told Hyudai is behind in getting these out to the USA. But its worth the wait as other thrid party spares often don't fit properly.
