Official: US dealer delivery dates for Veloster Turbo thread

    Hi,

New to forum. I am active member on IWSTI.com. I have a 2011 STI sedan that I use at HPDE's and I am currently putting a lot of DD miles on the car. The Veloster Turbo is my choice for my DD. I am going nuts waiting for this car. I have almost pulled the trigger twice on the NA or no turbo model. I am committed to holding out until I get one of these turbo versions.

I saw the post about the Canadian delivery. I have been hounding dealers here in MA about their delivery dates. It looks like we might get them around the same time. I am looking up and down the east coast for a red VT.

Anyway, if you know of a delivery date for a specific dealer or when they show up please post here.

    Dealer name:
    City:
    VT available currently:
    Pictures if available:

Thanks - I am sure a lot of people will appreciate this. So long as they don't get theirs before I do! : )

P.S. I choose this car over: Subaru BRZ, Mini Cooper S, VW GTI and a few others I was considering.

I'm pretty sure we're still months away. The Press Launch is June 18th. I'm not even sure if the production has gotten to the point where they can deliver. Hell, the Korean VT is expected to hit customers on May 18th, and they usually get the cars months ahead of us.

Although, in a few months, I wouldn't be surprised if this thread will be constantly F5'ed.

Unfortunately at this point this thread is pretty much useless. Unfortunately to be perfectly honest, dealers won't know for certain until they see one backing off the truck. Hyundai has said the first should go on order in June and be at the dealers in early July - that's about as close as you'll get at this point.

When any new product is released in the US, initially each dealer is usually allocated 1 or 2, but when they are allocated, they could be on a boat that just left S. Korea that has a month-long journey to get to the east coast of the US - or they could already be at the port, processed and ready to ship. Once they are on order there is a "Vehicle Delivery" screen that will show the dealer estimated dates for each step of the journey - as shown below. Cars can arrive at port and go through the inspection process the same day - but if they find problems, it can hold things up considerably. Looking at the warranty history on my Veloster, at the port it had the navi head unit replaced, something for a BlueLink issue, and the rear spoiler replaced due to damage or defects missed at the factory. Unfortunately I've seen cars hang at one stage a week or more from the estimated date. Even once the car leaves the port, it can still be off by 1-2 days from the estimated dates.

Ask anyone on here who have been waiting for their regular V to arrive how accurate dealers are at predicting a cars arrival.

Unfortunately for us on the east coast, shipping from S. Korea to the west coast is quicker, so sometimes west coast dealers get theirs sooner that the east (or mid-west which generally ships by rail from the west coast).

After the initial 1-2 distribution, dealers are allocated based on previous 90 days sales and inventory (on hand and on order). So, dealers that sell more regular Velosters now, will be allocated more Turbos - the same as dealers selling more of the Elantra Touring will get more of its replacement, the Elantra GT when that comes this summer as well. So if you see some regular Velosters hanging around on your favorite dealers lot, find someone to go in and buy it - it'll help improve the chance of you getting the Turbo you want from the dealer later on.

Good stuff guys - thanks. I am aware of the usual issues with getting the car here. I had this with some cars I have ordered in the past, but with watching and carefully pursuing the dealers I have ended up getting one of the first of each model STI I have owned. I have even gotten the color I wanted. I'm willing to go all the way down the east coast to find this car. Never thought I'd be that nuts about a Hyundai!

Guess I should go buy a scooter for the time being.

I know what you mean regarding choosing the VT over the cars you listed.

I also had those same cars on my list along with the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Honda Insight and the Nissan Juke. None of those cars appealed to me the way the VT does. Now,,, it's just a waiting game for the VT's to be available. My choice is a white VT, auto tranny and all options!

August 3rd is the deadline for me for a turbo (as August 3rd is my 2009 Civic's turn in date). If the turbo is released after August 3rd, I'll probably have to resort to the regular veloster.
The media intro event starts about the same time as I get my final lease bill in the mail, as my final lease bill is due July 3rd. It looks for me as if the release date (if it's what I'm dreading what might happen) could be cutting it a little too close for comfort for me.

Not sure why you wouldn't just negotiate a few extra months with them, or do a rental car or something. A car is a pretty huge investment and settling is going to leave a bad taste in your mouth

    This.

Would you really rather drive a base Veloster over a Veloster Turbo for 3-5 years simply because you would have otherwise had to either negotiate an extra couple of months on a lease, rent a car for a few weeks or month for a few hundred bucks or simply buy a $500 beater car?

Sounds like you would highly regret the Veloster purchase and end up getting the VT anyway, and losing far more $ than what you need to spend to get you through the interim between the lease end and the VT release.

The version I plan on getting for the regular is a style package red interior. The pricing for me is the biggest thing about the turbo right now. One source shows figures that adjust the USA amounts to about 19,500 msrp, while hyundai is advertising 21500 msrp for the turbo. Because of this, I just don't know who or what to believe.

This has been covered many times. You can't just convert Korean Won to USD. There are many other factors involved in prices besides straight conversion.

The best figure we have for a base US prices is 21500.00.

Test Drove a Veloster in Cincinnati today. While chatting with the guy we got onto the subject of the Turbo. I told him I'm not sure I want to wait around for half a year until they show up. He said he expects some by the end of THIS month. He said he has a few people already with money down on them, but I was surprised to hear they might be in this month.

    Welcome, and congrats

For me the next car purchase has to be a FWD Hot Hatch, I too eliminated the MINI S and the VW GTI, I really like the Ford Focus ST but as it does not come in 3-doors it too is out, and really the Mazdaspeed 3 falls into that same group as the ST. As someone who had an '87 CRX-Si and still has my '90 CRX-Si, I would put the Honda CR-Z at the very top of my list, if the car had a real engine and not that twisted up rubberband piece of chit they have under the hood now. So for me, that's how I sort of circled around to the VT.

It's not going to be about the release date, it's going to be all about when the dealers have inventory on the lot...
    IMHO

That is their job: make sure you get hooked to them. Believe it or not, many people will really fall for that. Had the same experience with my very first car. But I have learned since then.

He's just trying to get your money for a deposit so you won't go buy from another dealer. Again today in a conference call, we were told early July by HMA regional management. No US dealer will have one for sale in May. The Elantra Coupe & GT are due before the Turbo, and they won't be here until June.

I'm just as excited as the rest of you guys. My Versa has been paid off and I'm just saving for a fat down payment on a VT. I don't really wanna hound my local dealerships as I may come off desperate for one LOL
