    Official Veloster Turbo Thread!!!

ok...i would like to start a thread dedicated to the Turbo, this way all of the information is in one thread. AND for people looking for information it will be HERE instead of making new threads about it.

    Motor...

Gamma 1.6 T-GDI motor making 204hp @6000 and 195 ft/lbs @1750!!! it comes with a manifold integrated twin scroll turbo (specs are unknown at the moment) (Source HMC press release...Hyundai Motor Group Unveils Advanced Powertrains at the | Hyundai Motors)

    Suspension...

Continued with McPherson struts upfront only with the torsion bar in the rear (no independent rear suspension)

    Brakes...

20mm larger rotors in the front.

    Steering...

Steering ratio has been quickened, along with the points on the knuckle being shifted. It will also use the electric motor to control torque steer...though this will not cure the burning of the inside tire, but you will not have to fight with the steering wheel either. All should figured out when somebody gets their hands on one and tests it.

    Interior...

New all leather seats with Turbo on them will replace the bolsterets seats. Black leather is the only option with Grey or Blue lettering "Turbo". Heated seats is standard along with proximity key.

    Exterior...

Different more aggressive front and rear fascias. New 18" wheels. Round exhaust ports centered into the rear bumper. Projector headlights, LED taillights, and turn signal side mirrors.
    E

alright people....post up the pics...i cant do everything around here! haha

Im deff solid on this car or one other, Im not in any rush though with 2 good cars already. So I have lots of time to make sure I pick the right car. They say April is when they will debut it at the show? Seems kinda late but time will tell! Cant wait.
Waiting patiently for the Turbo version! Vroom Vroom!

195 ft/lbs @1750? Holy little turbine Batman! Must be like VW sized (manifold integrated too like VW).

Must be a strong engine to be able to handle peak torque that low in the RPM band.
    Here's my new Blog:

    http://drivegeek.wordpress.com

The goal of this blog is to put my impressions and any other information needed to make a proper decision about a car BEFORE you buy it. I'm not reviewing the techy stuff, just how the car does as being it's primary purpose...a car. I will also post negative information about cars from real owners, not some car magazine.

    Hey,

Does anyone know if this is true?

A person on another forum mentioned that the DCT transmission can only handle up to 193 ft/lb torque and that the torque of the turbo would be too much for it.

I'm not sure if they were just blowing smoke, but if thats the case, I wonder of Hyundai is implementing a better DCT or making the turbo a manual only car.

Anyone know any info about this?

InsideLine: Hyundai: Veloster Turbo Will Not Crowd Genesis Coupe

Hyundai wants to dial up the horsepower on the GenCoupe to keep things going how they're suppose to since the Veloster is getting a turbo upgrade.

    win win situation right here!

Hyundai told Inside Line on Tuesday that it plans to dial up the horsepower on the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe to make room for the new Hyundai Veloster Turbo, which is due out next summer.

    Just the Facts:

    * Hyundai told Inside Line on Tuesday that it plans to dial up the horsepower on the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe to make room for new Hyundai Veloster Turbo, which is due out next summer.
    * Hyundai confirmed on Monday at the 2011 SEMA Show that the Hyundai Veloster Turbo will debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.
    * Hyundai insists it has room in its lineup for two turbocharged coupes, but that it is aiming at a "clear separation."

LAS VEGAS — Hyundai told Inside Line on Tuesday that it plans to dial up the horsepower on the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe to make room for new Hyundai Veloster Turbo, which is due out next summer.

Hyundai confirmed on Monday at the 2011 SEMA Show that the Hyundai Veloster Turbo will debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

"It's official," wrote Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik in the automaker's Twitter feed. "Veloster Turbo is coming. More details in January at the Detroit Auto Show."

In a phone conversation on Tuesday morning with Inside Line, a Hyundai Motor America spokesman explained the strategy behind the decision to offer two turbocharged coupes that likely will be close to each other in price and specifications.

"There will be more separation during the mid-cycle refresh for the Genesis Coupe," explained Miles C. Johnson, Hyundai Motor America's product spokesman. "We will dial up the horsepower on the base model turbo Genesis Coupe. That's the strategy. Now that the Genesis Coupe is moving up in performance, there's room for a car beneath it."

He said Hyundai would then be able to offer a front-wheel-drive turbocharged coupe with Veloster and a rear-wheel-drive turbocharged coupe with Genesis.

He would not divulge output figures on the upcoming Genesis Coupe, but indicated it would be "well over" the current horsepower. The 2012 Genesis Coupe with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 210 horsepower.

The Genesis Coupe is slated for a refresh for model year 2013, according to the automaker's four-year cycle plan.

Johnson would not speculate on pricing for the turbocharged Veloster, but it is expected that the car will begin around $20,000. The base 2012 Veloster with a 138-hp 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmission starts at $18,060, including a $760 destination charge.

Johnson said the turbocharged Veloster will get the new 1.6-liter T-GDI, a turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder that makes 208 hp.

He said that the decision to introduce a turbocharged Veloster was not related to complaints among automotive journalists that the Veloster is underpowered.

"It wasn't a reaction to that," Johnson said. "It was 'do we have room in the lineup for two turbocharged coupes?' and then making sure they are differentiated enough."

Inside Line says: By this time next year, we'll have three new 200-hp sport coupes (Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, Hyundai Veloster turbo) to choose from. Looks like 2012 is going to be a good year for enthusiasts on a budget.

2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo confirmed for production

As a lot of you already know, the Veloster Turbo has been confirmed, here's an article on the situation giving us more information on whats going on!

Can't wait to finally see this thing on the road and better yet, DRIVE IT!

The 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo may be the worst-kept secret in the Korean automaker’s history.

Rumors of the Veloster Turbo’s development have been circulating for over a year, and things looked even more promising when Hyundai recently confirmed a turbocharged version of the Veloster’s 1.6-liter engine.

Now it’s official: Hyundai's U.S. chief John Krafcik has confirmed that the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo will debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show next January. It will share the spotlight with another anxiously awaited Hyundai product, the refreshed 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Speaking to audiences at this week's SEMA show in Las Vegas, Krafcik was careful not to release too many details about the Veloster Turbo, but he did confirm that it would be powered by a forced induction version of the company’s 1.6 liter Gamma engine.

Hyundai’s recent documentation on this engine shows that it produces 204 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, which should make the Veloster Turbo a legitimate challenger to other front-wheel-drive hot hatchbacks like the Mini Cooper S and the Volkswagen GTI.

Hyundai will also take steps to boost the output of the rear-drive 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo, which currently makes 210 horsepower. In Krafcik’s words, the automaker will “turn the (power) knob to the right” to distance the new Genesis Coupe from it’s more affordable sibling, the Veloster Turbo.

Hyundai isn’t giving us release dates just yet, but we’d expect to see both cars on dealer lots by mid-year 2012.

I have been LOVING the design of the Veloster, everything is spot on for what I am looking for... I anxiously awaited the press release for the turbo edition but I am torn on the design! I think the turbo design is too unnatural and the exhausts tips make the car look like a glutton! Now I know they have to make adjuatments to increase air flow and exhaust diameter I just wish they didn't mess with the overall design. I dont know if I'm preaching to the choir here or not but who knows maybe in time I'll grow to like it...

Myself, I've come from 2.2l cobalts with 140hp so turbo is nice but not a need... hmmm... damnit!

Before i am engulfed in flames only1db, the spy video proved those designs.

Love it. Hyundai gets more people amped up about the Turbo that is supposed to be coming out mid year. Hope it hits the states in early fall. Expect to see what the Azara is (pushed off for a few extra months).
    Start taking orders!
