Good Morning, Good Afternoon, & Good Night

    Hello Veloster.org,

I currently own the 3.8 Genesis Coupe and thinking about a trade-in for the Veloster. As much as I love the Gen, it's killing me at the pump. It sure is a tough call and for that matter of fact, I hope this community will help me ease the possible transition.

Wow from Gen to Veloster.... Not an easy transition but if you heart is set in the feel of speed you get with the Genesis hold out for the Turbo version... It may be better in Fuel than your current Gen but that remains to be seen..
However if you don't care for power then jump in and get the Veloster wife and I are loving it.

Swing by your local dealership and try one out you will either trade it on the spot of hold on for the Turbo edition whenever it comes out next year..

    Also.. Welcome to the forum

Gotta agree with Jadehawk here, switching will be hard on you if you drive that GenCoupe the way it's meant to be driven. The Veloster will feel SLOOOOOOOWWWWWWW after that. Just a heads-up. I always welcome fresh faces, but I think the turbo would make the transition smoother and easier to stomach lol.

I can definitely understand the killing at the pump. Going to a V from my IS300 will double my mileage and I won't have to pump premium any more. Where I fill up twice a week now I will probably only fill up once.

Drive a non-turbo and see how it feels. Like the others have said, if it feels too slow for you, wait for the turbo.

    Oh, and Welcome!

Welcome. Im also a Genesis owner, but my Elantra will get trading in for a Veloster long before the Genesis does.

I agree, its hardly the greatest on gas.

Thanks. It will be tough to see it go. What bothers me the most is someone will end up with it that won't appreciate it.

    Sorry for the thread jack.

Just do it and the adjustment will come quickly :-) Kind of felt the same about my Tiburon. I got teary eyed driving to the dealer to trade her in and hoping who ever the new owner is, will appreciate her with TLC. The largest adjustment in comparison is how low my Tib sat compared to the V but given I had a back injury, the V is so much easier to get in and out of and better ride and fit for my back.

One of the fun challenges with the NA Veloster is to keep trying to better your gas mileage. It has the tools to help you do so. Obviously this is a big change in mindset from the Genesis and one that you will have to figure out for yourself. My last hot rod was a Mustang GT. Yes I enjoyed it, but I'm having much more fun now pushing the gas mileage envelope.

Don't get me wrong. The Veloster is a fun car to drive, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I had to pass a semi on a two lane rural road today, so I grabbed fourth gear and gave it ****. No, it's not the rush you get with the Genesis, but for me it was a nice kick in the a$$.

Good luck with your decision. But do yourself a favor and test drive the Veloster before deciding.

Welcome to the forum. There's a lot of good people on here.

If its really gonna kill you, keep your current car, after all you will be paying more in the long run by starting new payments all over again! Think about that for awhile! Your Genesis will be paid off in 2 or 3 years if your on a 5 year plan, you will be starting out all over again if you get a brand new car! I havent had payments in a year and a half on any car and its **** nice to look out and see 2 cars fully paid off in my driveway You really need to do the math on this, how much better gas mileage will you get with the V? 10 more MPG in city? How much will your car payment change if any, and now you gotta tag another 2 or 3 years of payments on it. Enjoy the math!
Waiting patiently for the Turbo version! Vroom Vroom!

I surely appreciate for all your honest opinions. I really want to make the right call, and that's why I'm over here asking for your inputs. I can just recall my recent experience when I had a Mazda 2 as a rental while my Genesis was in for service. I hated every moment of it other than the fact that I was able to carry more junk in the trunk. Sure, I was able to get into a parking space probably blind folded due to its miniscule size, but getting on the freeway onramp made me rethink about what I'm doing with my life.

Besides the fact, I will most definitely stick around. I will continue to be involved with this community and see what else I can learn and even provide my support to any in need.
