    New Veloster - Sandy Replacement

Always had my eye on a veloster, finally got one after my car was destroyed thanks to a certain hurricane named Sandy.

I really wanted a Turbo but the dealers around here are selling them for $7k over sticker price, and couldn't get my hands on one.

I ended up with a Black Veloster with the Style Package.

Still wanting that extra trubo and features, but what can you do... these cars are hard to find.

Anyone here ever trade up to a turbo?

    Thanks Guys.

Variable... did you guys have trouble swapping it out? I'm in a 36 month lease, but hope to swap up to an Ultimate Turbo when they are more available.

With a lease, it Should be easier. But that's always Dependent on The Games The Dealership will want to Play.

Hey Zach, I was driving a 2012 Scion iQ (2 months old) and my wife was driving my 2007 Camry Hybrid.... both killed.

The little guy was fun (and came with 6 months free parking in NYC which I got to keep), but really happy I went with the veloster this time around. It's only 3 feet longer but provides so much more utility, power, and comfort.

Did you guys have to pay a lease termination fee?

I told my guy to keep his eyes peeled for a loaded turbo and call me as soon as he gets one in.

Congratz on the new ride. Sorry to hear about your previous cars and everything that has happened. Hopefully, it was just the cars. All the best going forward and good luck with getting a Turbo!

Yeah thankfully I'm on the 7th floor so no real damage except 2 weeks without power.

    I'm working on it!

If its not possible, I'm looking into how much it would actually cost to replace the front bumper and grill, add nav and push start, and a few other toys to bring it closer to a turbo.

Push start will run you about 425 in parts if you want Hyundai OEM, I'm looking it buying it myself around tax time. I'm installing it myself as of right now, but the dealer is getting me confirmation on whether it NEEDS to be done at the dealer or not because the car will also have to be re-keyed. They told me that if it does have to be done at the dealer it will be around two hours labor. I think labor at my dealer is like 65/hr. The NAV HU is around 750 in parts, and if you're interested a backup camera (handle mount, not license plate) is 375 in parts. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. Welcome to the community!

Congrats on the Veloster, sorry it replaced a vehicle you lost to Sandy. Maybe you could say it's your silver lining.

Yeah I thought it may be a bit pricey. What I've come up with is:
    • $65 Auto Headlights: Shark Racing
    • $620 Turbo full bumper conversion kit + fog lights
    • $425 Push Start OEM
    • $375 Backup Camera
    • $750 NAV Head Unit
So total is about $2,235 to 'tech out' your base/ style veloster. Maybe just find a VT Ultimate and pay the lease termination fee :P

Was a scam. No real conversion kit exists. Have to do it custom like Stuie did or replace the whole grill and bumper.

Was in getting my first service done today, and they had three 'second hand' Velosters that had been traded on VT's - plus three VT's in stock, and about half a dozen V's - seems like there's not the shortage in Australia you have in the US there??

Definitely sounds like it! Dealers in the NY area are charging $7k over sticker price.

There's also just a general car shortage here because Sandy wiped out 500,000+ cars.
