Getting Tints Done.... Need Some Advice

Hey guy's, I'm going to be getting my '13 veloster tech package in white tinted on saturday. I don't know what percentage to get. I'm in Ontario. I was thinking 15% but would that be too dark? I don't want any troubles with the cops. 30% seems ok but it looks a tad bit light. What do you guys think would go best on a white V?

I did 25% All around in my VT. Went to Itint in Woodbridge. Only paid $200 tax in Don did an awsome job. I would highly recommend his shop. Check out itint.ca.

Pic were taken on a cloudy, rainy day. They aren't that dark. But they look awsome.

I was looking into getting tints at Auto-Links and they only come in 5/15/30/40/50%.

Too bad.. 15 is too dark and 30 is too light. What brand film are they using... And how much is it?

It's Formula One Pinnacle tints I believe. It's $270 plus tax through the redflagdeals group buy.

My white V has 30% and I think it's a decent %. I will say that when comparing light coming through the windshield and light coming in through the passenger window, it is hard to believe that it's 30%

Just a correction Don at iTint uses 20% not 25%, he does great work. Don did my white Elantra, I went with 20% all around. For me it looks just perfect not too dark and not too light for a white vehicle.

Hey YangerD, I got 15% all around on my V including a windshield visor. Here is a pic of it to give you a reference of how it looks on a NON sunny day. With lots of sun, you can still see in and you are definitely still visible from the side windows and windshield

Hope this gives you an idea of how dark/not too dark it is for you.

PS I did have 15 in the back and 30 up front but it bothered me cause you can tell the difference so I changed it all to 15%

In Ontario there is no set percentage for the front 2 windows, it's all up to the cops and whether they think they can clearly identify the driver/passenger. The rule of thumb in Ontario to be cop friendly is 35% in the front and you are free to do whatever percentage elsewhere. The Pinnacle series lets in more light than typical classic tint (ie: Pinnacle 30 = 33%, 15 = 18%). I got mine done from Auto-Links as well. The people there are great and knowledgeable. I went with Pinnacle 15 for both the rear hatch pieces and 30 for all the side windows. It really depends on the angle you look at the car. The front is really big and lets in a lot of light so you'll always see through from the front but many angles on the side and rear it already is pretty dark with my current setup. I also wanted to be safe on the sides and not give any reason to get in trouble for piece of mind. I say that but I'm going to tint the front windshield soon with AirBlue. As much as it's deemed an illegal product, I'm actually getting it for safety due to the way light glare shatters in my eyes.

Let me know how the AirBLue goes for you. I'm very curious about that product and it might help to make the car much more butt-friendly in the scorching summer months without having to use those cumbersome windshield covers! Granted it won't be until next summer that I'd consider getting it.

Had a good look at the V today(30%). Overcast outside. from the side(other tinted window is the backdrop) when looking in you really can't see anything, especially the backseat. when looking through the side glass from a rearward angle(windshield is the backdrop) you can see in. I have the upper hatch at 5% and the lower hatch at 30%

I think I'll just go with 30% all around. It still looks good and I should be safe in regards to the cops and driving during the winter at night.

I simply say, "Sorry officer, it's temporary tinted film and I will gladly pull it off the windows right now."
Officer says, "No, you don't have to take it off right now, but make sure to take it off as soon as you get home or else you'll get a ticket next time." This has worked, everytime! For some reason cops NEVER want to call my bluff.

Found a guy who actually tints for the dealer but through a friend he did a $299 job (if I went through dealer) for $189 - lifetime warranty.

    Did 35%

Mine is 35% all around. Plenty dark for me.

with the sunshade closed and the black interior it's dark enough IMO.

Yup, butt definitely gets toasty from the sun coming through the front. I've had to park my front facing north all summer to minimize the heat coming in. I'm still having a hard time deciding between Pinnacle 50 or AirBlue for the front but will update once I get it done. The former would be to have more of that grey/black look on all windows and the latter of course for legalities. These posts have got me curious enough to check out my car tonight to see if there is a noticeable difference with me having 15 on the rear hatch pieces and 30 on all the sides. Might spend a little extra to redo the sides if the mismatch is unpleasant... =( Otherwise I find the Pinnacle 30 on the sides dark enough for my needs.

So I ended up going with 30% Pinnacle tints from Auto-Links. It looks amazing! I'll get pictures for you guys soon but night time is not a problem at all.

So I got the AirBlue installed for almost a month (didn't realize I've had it that long now). They did advise me that winter was not the most ideal time to do it as it is hard for it to settle making visibility worse in winter during the curing process. Thankfully weather was decent during that time and I did stay off the roads most of time as advised. Now that everything has settled in I really find that my car maintains temperature better and not affected by the outside elements as much. I can't comment on scorching summer sun yet as there ain't any around for awhile but visibility at night (for me only) has improved. I can see the shapes of many headlights now instead of them all being a big ball spark of light that blinds me.

I did also put Pinnacle 15 on all the sides as well. I bit the bullet and just wanted everything consistent with the 15 of the rear and hatch piece.

Will try to remember to update about this in the summer.

Although there is no legal limit in Ontario, people I have spoke with assume 34-35% is the rule of thumb. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference anywhere between 30 and 35%. However, my wife at a Police Road Check thingy coming off the 407 was told the Pinnacle 30 on it was too dark... Although there are two things likely affecting why it may have appeared darker than it should have been: It was only installed 2 days before so during curing (especially in winter) there could be a lot of moisture in there affecting visibility and I've read her car from factory has about 70% already. Most cars have a little something so be careful about that if you're trying to be safe with our lovely Police officers.
