Krown Rustproofing - Who's Doing it?

who's gonna take their V's for rustproofing at Krown or other places. Is it worth it? These rustproofing applications are another mixed discussion, some good, some bad. Never did this before either because it was leased vehicle or didn't drive it long enough to see it rust. But the V seems like a keeper.

I fee the same. Ive hear good and bad. Good that it does the job apparently, bad that it can be messy and that they sometimes drill holes in various locations of the car.

I too, rarely keep a car for more then a few years, so Ive never had it applied.

Alot of the GTA car clubs use Krown Lakeshore.

I had my V Krowned in July. If you want to do it, do it before it gets cold, it's really best to do it when it is warm out (plus you will avoid the winter rush). Yes it drips for a few days and yes they drilled holes but they are very discreet and no one would ever notice them. I had never done it either (since my old cars were beaters) but driving in Ottawa is like driving in a salt mine and everything rusts in five years without treatment.
I also found the cost to be very small (100$/year) considering the potential gain in lifetime.

is there any maintenance required? Krown only did the undercarriage right? what about your wheel wells and other places?

Not only the undercarriage, also in the wheel wells and inside the doors, hatch, rockers, etc. (hence the drilling). I don't recall anything about maintenance other than re-doing it every year. It starts to build up after a couple years as well. The basic idea is to get the oil into places where moisture can gather so it can displace the water.

Done it to every car I've owned. NEVER seen a spec of rust and I've had cars for up to 6 years. I'm definitely getting V in within the next two weeks.

Yes it is very messy. I try to park on the road as much as possible to allow it to drip there. I do recommend this treatment.

6 years is too short of a time to really test if rustproofing is effective. But either way, I am hoping to keep my car for awhile so I will likely get it rustproofed. Dunno how good the factory rustproofing is and whether the car is built to withstand the salt-heavy winter roads we have here.

Heck my wife's 2003 Corolla has never been rustproofed, not a spec of rust on it.

We've been using Krown for years. We're booked in for early Dec., they're booked ahead that far. My wife and the lady she shares the commute each bought Mazda 3's at the same time a few years back. Each car had nearly equal mileage due to sharing the same commute. The friend didn't undercoat. We had no electrical, brakeline or lock problems during the 200,000km ownership. The car with no undercoating had the trunk lock replaced twice, brakeline replacement, and an electrical connection problem of which I can't remember the exact details now. The 2007 Vibe I traded this spring had Krown every year also and at 265 000km it had not a rattle or squeak or any rust perforations. When I get the undercoating done the garage takes my car the night before and places it inside and does it first in the day when it is warm and dryed off. I feel better about having it done this way but Krown says it is effective even if coated wet. This will make the 6th vehicle we have had Krown on so I guess we're big believers but both my wife and myself each commute 200km/day in all weather.

after using Krown, do you guys wash the car during winter, especially the undercarriage or you just leave it until when spring comes to do a big wash?

I don't wash the undercarriage. I do regularly wash the exterior. Krown will seap into all the crevices and bond to the metal so I don't think undercarriage wash will remove any of the undercoating. We're on the road so much undercarriage wash is waste of time as it would be coated in salt on the way home from the wash. I use Krown on my ride on tractor and snow blower too. Keeps everything looking like new and rust free.

Just had my V Tech, yesterday (Nov. 8th) 2 weeks old treated yesterday. I used Krown for most of the years on my 1991 Alfa 164S. No rust. None. Here in the greater Vancouver area there is no dealer (versus about 135 in Ontario). I had to drive to Squamish which is about 1.4 hrs. except rush hour return when is was about 2.5 hrs. Still, I think it worthwhile.

I have a few BMW buddy's that swear by this Regs place. Nothing but solid reviews from everyone I know.

Ok just got mine done, looks good. We were discussing about Krown drilling holes and i think the guy at JR is right. We have holes/gutters at the bottom of our doors so what is the point of drilling holes. The guy at JR sticks a nozzle at that gutter part and sprays inside. For the price of 75$, very thorough and detail job, no skipping steps. Best thing is that it does not drip, i looked at the bottom, there is a layer of oil intact with the surface so it should stand under this winter. Anyone interested should check them out, a better option compared to Krown and other places.

The one thing that I do like about Krown that the other guys often neglect, is the coating of all electrical connections. To the point of removing, for example, your tailights and coating any access there to body panels and doing the electrical plug connection. Also compare what remains on the undercarriage of the vehicle after 1 year. That's what really determines an effective undercoating.

How much it cost to do the whole car?

    How long does it takes?

Do you have the address I am interested.

    Thanks

75$ is what he charges - sprays undercarriage, hood, wheel wells, inside door panels. Doesn't skimp on the job, no stop spraying for around 40 minutes. Total process took under an hour. Location at the bottom, borders between Scarborough and Pickering.

I just got my VT a few weeks ago and opted out of the factor rustproofing option.

I want to go with Krown, but given that we're heading into summer now, is there any point in doing the rustproofing now or should I wait until we're closer to winter?
