Not yet, have less then 500 miles on a 2013 non-turbo, and keeping my eye on this forum for more info. Keeping the sun roof closed and the panel too. I will likely have a heart attack if it explodes while I'm in the car. Any one know if the roofs where open or closed when the they went ka-boom? or if any of the drivers had roof racks? I saw a line some place that suggested frequency/vibration could have cause a resonance that shattered the glass. It gets me thinking about the Start Trek Next Gen episode where Marr shatters the Crystalline Entity.

Well as you can see from the basic poll, the numbers are low. Even the actual report the NHTSA had only a handful of reports for something like 180000 Velosters. Id worry more about being struck by lightening then my roof going boom.

And most likely any V/VT owners out there that have had it happen to them are on the forums where as lots of owners who haven't had it happen to them aren't on the forums. I just keep the cover on and don't use it when I either have to use a/c or heat so that the glass isn't being hit with temperature changes.

Purchased my NAV Oct 2011 and just hit 16,000 miles including a trip to Daytona last spring... open the SR whenever I can. No problems here.
Mine blew up last week 11/26/12... Im from Seattle and it was 37 degrees when it happen. I open my trunk and when i closed it my sunroof exploded. My dealer is fixing it right away but wont give me a good offer for a trade in.. they just want to sell me another car for more money which is understandable, but i wont be buying another hyundai anymore. I dont feel safe in my car and after reading a few reports with other people having their sunroof exploding while driving, not even gonna wait for it. My veloster will be traded in. Sorry fellow V owners. I really like my car(MY FIRST CAR). but safety concerns me alot.

Sorry for your unfortunate circumstances but before you write off Hyundai you should research (Google "shattering sunroofs") and you'll see that ANY and EVERY manufacturer has the same problem. It's NOT Hyundai, it's the characteristics of tempered glass. If safety is your main concern don't get a sunroof with ANY car and before your run away from Hyundai make sure the vehicle or manufacturer you're running to has a better safety and quality record...there are scant few. But good luck.

Not yet but I am worried but if it happens it happens what can you do
There are 0% users reporting their sunroof shattering after they had it replaced from their first incident. Or at least I haven't seen any, so in a sense, it is going to be very based on the little evidence we have now.
Maybe we'll start a poll next on that...
Sorry to hear you feel that way about your first car. It definitely isn't a nice to feel unsafe but as posted above, if you are that bothered by this that much, best to avoid sunroofs entirely. But where does one draw the line because everything has a freak chance of failing on you.
EDIT: I still remember the day when I saw the Mercedes panoramic sunroof outside of work many years ago, I couldn't stop looking at how awesome it was. At that time we were considering a Lexus but boy did that panoramic sunroof every change our purchase then. Anyway, the thought of it just now made me decide to look for this:

UPDATE ABOUT MY VELOSTER.... my hyundai dealer had one of their engineer suggested to replace the sunroof motor. Did everyone that had their sunroof blew up also got the motor change?
I have the panoramic roof, no problems yet, I've only had the car a week.
If I reply to the Poll I have a feeling 'ole Murphy will show up and work his magic. Panoramic roof, still intact...
Spooling up.
Wow!! Scarey stuff! Hope it does not happen to mine!
If my sunroof exploded, I think I wouldn't be surprised in the least. I would most likely take it down to my dealer, and they would somehow try to convince me that it's my fault. Then, out of sheer frustration, I would pay for it out of pocket because that's my experience so far.
three months and no explosion. I tend to only open it occasionally but always keep the sunshade open because I like the open feel.....perhaps as it gets colder I'll keep the shade closed....just in case I hit a pothole at 60 mph with a load if ice on the sunroof.....

Does anyone have the specific model number of the sunroof that theirs is being replaced with? Or, even the model number of my Veloster sunroof? The only thing I can really find is this right here: GLASS ASSEMBLY - PANORAMA ROOF MOVING. SUNROOF ((PANORAMA SUNROOF - POWER-ONE TOUCH). ). 2012 Hyundai VELOSTER # 816302V000
Probably not. Most of the people that have had their sunroof "explode" have few posts and never return to the forum to report back.
Since the NHTSA is supposed to be investigating this, Im surprised no one has ever reported their findings. That is, unless there is nothing to be found, except a random occurrence that has actually happened to very few people compared to how many Velos there are on the road.
