had the same problem on my wife's V. only 5000km..... dealer had the car for 3 days...we got a rental so no problem....parts were going to take 4-5 weeks from korea so the dealer sent the caliper to a specialist to be rebuilt....everything working fine for now....the biggest issuse with this problem is that the new calipers coming from korea are the same as the original parts and hence this issue will more then likely keep happening until hyundia redesigns that part

I hope all you V owners having this brake seize issue are filing complaints withhttp://www.nhtsa.gov/ I don't know if dealers are required to report this serious mechanical failure issue or not. But we as owners can report it to those in government who can look at it and determine whether this warrants a recall by Hyundai. So please follow thru and file the complaints, having it fixed by Hyundai under warranty does nothing to inform NHTSA that I am aware of.

So the dealer didn't order me a caliper although after 2 test drives, one with the advisor & one with the mechanic, it swerved (during abs) and without abs but a hard brake it went either left or right. We also test drove another veloster and it did the same thing. This is a 'characteristic' of the car that is unsafe and hyundai motor finance needs to know!!! There is not enough velosters on the road letting them know. The more of us that report the issue to Hyundai Motors, the higher the chances of a fix/tsb

It's either the caliper seizing, the proportioning valve or both. I'm emailing hyundai motors. This is a serious issue because if you brake hard during 'wet' conditions you could easily hydroplane and/or lose control and cause a major accident.

To save some of you some trouble/trip to the dealer, let hyundai motor finance know FIRST. If there is no service bulletin, your dealer will NOT fix it!

My dealer replaced my left rear caliper but not the pads/rotors. They say they inspected them and there was no issue. I actually tend to believe them since they've been great to me as far as service goes.

My emergency brake light keeps coming on when I accelerate but no problems braking or brakes seizing. The light comes on both with traction on and off.

Is this a beginning symptom of this problem?

I must have the worst service two dealership visits and nothing done. The service advisor failed to note in my invoice, twice, about my issues. seems like he doesn't want a paper trail. What are you guys telling your service reps and how do you tell them to take care of your problem?

I asked to talk directly to the service manager. And told him the problem: The caliper is binding, it smells of brake wear, and when the stability control activates that wheel locks up causing loss of control.

Just FYI..... My left rear caliper appears to be seizing up again as I had it replaced right around 6 weeks ago and all seemed well. The burning smell is back and the Trac Off light came on last night as I pulled away from my parking spot and stayed on until I shut the car off and restarted a half hour later. I am having the oil changed Thursday at the dealership so we shall see how round #2 on this issue goes. This car is starting to frustrate me with some of the little bugs such as this and the lame drive by wire issue.

I still have the problem. 2 dealer trips, 2 emails to Hyundai Corporate and still no phone call from the area region rep. I hate to have to ease on the brakes and worry about the rear end sliding out. I'm not a happy camper with this issue and the lag. Otherwise, car has zero other kinks. This is what we get for buying a 1st year model car

New adventure today, lost the left rear caliper ... yep, you've read that right, I've LOST the friggin' caliper !!! It fell off the wheel.

Got the car towed to the dealer and they'll replace the faulty caliper, keeping my fingers crossed.

How do you lost the caliper? It just drop out of the wheel when you are driving? Won't that hurt your wheel and rotor too? That's terrible!

Just came back from the dealer, the car should be ready tomorrow...

Checked the wheel, very minor scuff marks on the inside of the wheel, nothing's broken in the wheel well, the friggin' caliper just popped off and fell off the rotor, hanging by the rubber brake line !!! Freaky stuff !!!

Did the caliper/pin bolts shear off, or were they totally missing?

Also had both rear calipers and parking brake replaced when they seized 3 months in....dealership ordered the parts and a week later they were in the car. No brake issues since. They told me it was a defect in the parts from factory.

Check number 1: Place your car in neutral (or clutch in) on a slight decline/hill.
If your car resists rolling/does not roll: your caliper/s is likely sticking.

Check number 2: Engage your emergency brake.
If there is new or additional play or slack before you feel resistance (the pads engaging the rotors): your caliper/s is likely sticking. This will be your first indication: In my case I noticed this for 2 weeks before noticing the car not rolling freely. Reason: initially the caliper does not return to its spung, wide open position which causes the slack in the E-brake cable. At this point the pads are not in constant rotor contact - SEE YOUR DEALER AT THIS POINT - it will only get worse. Wet salty conditions accelerate this process.

Dealership fix in Canada: Hyundai Canada is now aware of the issue (no recall until enough cars have this problem)
The dealers are to fix or replace the calipers throughout the 5 yr warranty period. There is a back order for new parts so dealers are sending the calipers out to be serviced then installing the same ones back on your car. Only the faulty caliper will be serviced. They do not default to the rear pair.

Timing: 1-day for my dealership (401/Dixie Hyundai in Toronto) to resolve the problem.

Process: First, a Technician diagnoses/verifies the issue. A request is made to Hyundai Canada for a one day car rental under warranty (they respond in about 1-hr). They give approval, you are given the rental which you return the following day when your Veloster is ready for pick-up. I would immediately look into haveing warped rotors or heavily worn pads replaced under warranty although there are no signs of this at this point in my case.

Hope this information helps out some of my fellow Veloster owners!

    Cheers, G
This is exactly what's going on with my car. It's in the dealership right now and I finally got them to give me a ride home..I might try to get a loaner if it's going to be a while. Thanks for your write up.

Wow, just got off the phone with the adviser. He said it's my fault because I drive in salty conditions and they will replace the pads this time for a "good will gesture" but from now on it's on me. I am losing my patience with this car pretty fast. I've owned nothing but BMWs in the past and I guess I got what I paid for...a cheap Korean car.
