My windows do the same thing if it's above freezing during the day and goes below freezing (and frosts hard) at night. What I do in the morning (after I start the car) is while I'm holding the switch to put the window(s) down, I open and slam the door affected at the same time. I sometimes need to slam the door a few times to get the frost to break free. This has always freed up the frosty stuck window so far.

I don't know that slamming is such a good idea. I can just see myself slamming the door and something breaking. You could always pretend the windows don't work like me lol.

If something breaks from "slamming" the door then it was going to break to begin with. I'm not saying become the Hulk and try to remove the door off it's hinges... I've had to use this approach in all my previous vehicles and have never had a problem with things breaking.

^ + don't drive it hard, corner hard, never slam the brakes... OMG I'm freaked out now, I think I'll have to leave my baby stored until I get over this. If it is going to break, it'll break either way, better to speed it up and get it replaced under warranty.

So many times in the past I remember babying my crap just to have it fail/break shortly after warranty expires. I'm no Hulk but I sure don't let me stuff think I'm a Jigglypuff or something and the number of things I've had to replace on warranty is just shocking. But I tend to find that my replacement rarely every breaks. I'm sure that part is just luck though.

Ok here's a suggestion, try aiming the other upper dash vents at the window while car warms up. We already have a built in defogger when on defrost mode (ya know the little vent that points towards windows) if they aren't fast enough poor some window de-icer from your gallon jug that you always keep handy in winter............

As for the slamming door, well uh, a guy tried that this morning on my V, I now have a genuine NASCAR rub along the entire driver side of my V. I'm just sitting at a red light minding my own business and WHAM ! At least I can still drive it. I'm gonna take the white shoe polish and put "rubbin is rac'in, Clint Boyer was here" on the drivers side to lighten the mood
I'd post a pic but I don't think I have those rights as a non paying subscriber.......

WTH Ray? It seems you've had some not-so-good luck with your V so far... Sorry to hear that.

Ya know the old saying "if it weren't for bad luck I'd have none at all" Body shop estimate $2960. Plus side, if there is one, the guy has State Farm Ins. as I do so process should move along...I hope

I guess I just think of everything from a technician's point of view. I don't know of any customer that would have excepted "Just Slam it" as a solution to their problem. The doors are designed to closed under their own weight with minimal effort, so I would imagine that the materials and quality of the parts were designed with that in mind. Nothing is made like it use to be, so I'd rather not test it. Warranty has done absolutely nothing for me, and I'm beginning to believe that a well built car with a lesser warranty is far better than a cheaply built car with a great warranty. When I buy a vehicle, it is my assumption that I shouldn't need to ever claim warranty unless its under circumstance of workmanship flaw (which is becoming surprisingly common today).

This is all entirely my opinion of course, and everyone will treat their vehicles the way they like.

Gee great, something to look forward to this winter. But then I don't open my windows much in the winter. Then again I don't smoke...that might have something to do with it.

I wonder if there is a connection between this winter issue and the summer issue where some folks can't roll down their windows. That summer diagnosis was pinned down to some sort of gunk they placed on the window tracks and if you remove the excess gunk w/Q-tip, your problem is seemingly solved. Is this the issue here perhaps??

I wish someone would tell me the answer to fixing these windows. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. Oh well... maybe next time I'll get something with working windows.

This happened to me this weekend. I stopped at a drive up ATM and was embarrassed to find my windows would not go down, none of them.
I'd been driving over 20 minutes, using the defroster the entire time (It was 25 degrees out) it had not rained or snowed the night before.
I got out an thumped the windows a little with the palm of my hand both inside and outside, wouldn't budge. I slammed the door and still nothing.
About an hour into my trip I tried the windows again, and they FINALLY worked! This is VERY annoying, add this to my trip computer & blue link issues this car is starting to get on my nerves.

At least your windows work when it's warm. Unfortunately, mine stick all the time and only work occasionally. I think I can except all the other issues with this car more easily than I can except the window problems. Power windows are nothing new and have been around for a very long time.

I'm fairly certain I'll still have my car next spring, so if they ever come up with a resolution to this window problem, I'll be sure to share it. I'm set to trade this in by next winter, and there's a good chance I'll head straight to the Subaru dealer.

Unless I win lottery I'll have mine for some time to come. I never thought I'd say it, but I think I'd like to have my 2007 SantaFe back, it was not high tech, but at least every option it did have, worked correctly and accurately.

my windows were frozen today as i found out at dunkin donuts. i used my ice scraper and gently peeled up the rubber trim from the outside of the window at the door frame. window went up and down easily after that. might be worth a shot over slamming doors and trying to force it with the button.

I wanted to go back and get my old car too. But they had shipped it out to a new home on some used car lot. It didn't even have a quarter of the technology in this car, but it was rock solid. I think my expectations for every car I own are now soiled because of it.
