    New turbo question/problem.

Just picked up a new turbo. I've had it for maybe 4 hours and i noticed something that may be my incompetence. When the car is off and locked, the rear view mirror buttons stay lit and so does the compass. Is there a way to turn them off or does it always stay on?

Lol sorry. Maybe no one had an answer for you. I think it stays on and with power so that the garage door opener will still work. I dont have the mirror in my Velo, but my Genesis has a button to turn the compass off. Id suspect that the V is similar. Check your owners manual.

I don't have a compass on mine either, but the Bluelink button lights turn off with the headlight switch. Your guess is as good as mine as to why it remains on.

Thank you for your responses. I checked the manual and it does not mention this. I asked the dealership and i was told it stays on, which i find odd. The car is completely dark and yet i still see lights on on the mirror. I suspect this may be a problem if the car is left to sit for a extended period of time.

I haven't noticed this before but I'll try to remember to check next time I leave the car.

    I'll ask...
"what compass?" I've never seen one in a Veloster so I have no idea why it would stay on.

I was wondering the same thing. Then it occurred to me to check the OP's location thinking perhaps his V was optioned differently from another country. But, no OP location was noted.

With folks posting here from all over the world and driving numerous configurations of optioned Vs, it is sometimes difficult to be responsive to an inquiry when the car's configuration is unknown. Perhaps the OP should consider that before issuing forth with sarcasm.

What country are you in Derek? I don't think the US cars have those on their mirrors. We have Blue Link, Roadside assistance and SOS.

My VT has a compass on the homelink mirror. Haven't noticed whether or not it stays on all the time. I'll definitely be checking out what OP is talking about tonight though.

Sounds like you have the Homelink mirror which is an option in the minority around here. I had the homelink mirror on my 06 Sonata and it did not stay on after the car was turned off. Was this installed at the dealer? Seems that I read somewhere that to install an extra wire had to be run from a switched source to add the homelink mirror. Could be possible that someone took a shortcut and instead spliced into one of the bluelink power sources already at the mirror that are always hot instead.

Weird!!!! Veloster does not have a compass on the mirror, even on the one with HomeLink. And also, there is an off/on (power) button smack in the middle of the mirror, really big one too. Maybe that would turn it off!!!!!! I believe the Sonata does bring a compass on the mirror.

Hyundai part #2V062-ADU00 is described as an Auto Dimming Homelink with Compass replacement mirror at $250.

Okay, I have the Homelink with compass. I just checked and there are no lights or compass on when the car is turned off.

My first thought is that it was installed incorrectly. Options such as Floormats, Cargo Tray and the Electrochromic Mirror are installed at the port so perhaps an unskilled worker tapped into the wrong wire? My Turbo does not have the Electrochromic Mirror and no one at the Dealer could give me a straight answer when I asked about whether the existing wiring for the standard Bluelink Mirror would allow a "plug-n-play" for the Homelink or if it would require rewiring. Check that angle with your Dealer.

I agree with Bobster, it's a dealer installed option, they may not have wired it properly.

The VT has the compass and garage buttons... Please be more informed about the car before you go around saying "what? I've never seen a Veloster with these options." That's about as useless as a response can get

Actually your comment is incorrect. The Homelink mirror with compass and garage buttons is an OPTION on the VT, and it is fairly rare to see one come from the port with this option installed. When I put a deposit down on my VT while it was in transit, I asked the dealer if they could install one when it arrived. At that time the Hyundai website "Build your own" function showed it as unavailable when choosing the VT model. After checking with the corporate service folks they were told that it could be added but that the VT was not pre-wired for that mirror and that they would have to change out the button tab that mounts it to the windshield and also would have to run an extra hot wire from a switch controlled power source. As I said in an earlier post, based on the OP's description it sounds like the installer took the easy way out and instead tapped into a nearby non-switched hot wire (likely the one going to the dome lights).

I wonder how quickly that compass and display lights would kill the battery..... anyway, get prepared for a fight with the dealer.
