Question Looking to getting an alignment on my V...

So i've noticed that the car has been pulling a bit and the steering wheel has been off center (not by much, but noticeable) and the car seems to wonder and its hard to keep straight.
I also noticed that when i hit an uneven pavement the cars front seems to pull to one side as if the wheels were pointing opposite ways, i do notice a bit of wear along the edges of my tires so im assuming
    that an aligment will help.

Now another question to add to this is, do i have to take it to the hyundai dealer? is there something special that this car needs since it has electric power steering? or can i take it to any wheel works or sears for the work?

Any thoughts or feed back would help thanks!

It's my belief you can take it to any reputable alignment shop as they will have the state-of-the-art equipment to do the job correctly. Sears isn't that in my area. But if yours is in your area, go for it. Typically if they have a Hunter alignment machine and the tech(s) know how to use it, you should be golden.

Make sure where ever you do take it you get print-outs of the "before" and "after" toe and camber settings. I believe the front castor isn't adjustable but the camber is on the front with camber bolts (you can use the OEM Gen Coupe R-spec camber bolts) and with shims in the rear if need be.

Let us know how it turns out.

ditto the above comment. i worked at an alignment shop and did alignments all day long, for the most part they're easy. just google or ask around for a trust worth shop that will stand behind their work. if you want to watch, most shops are fine with you looking at your car outside the bay, provided you do not enter the shop.

you can expect it to be anywhere from $50-$80 vs the dealers $100+

however, if your car is under 30,000 i would take it in as a warranty concern. your vehicle should not exhibiting signs of a bad alignment.
myself, with a few others here, have had issues with our cars just like yours.

Well im hitting 19k miles and there have been a couple of times that i have hit some pretty deep potholes that slammed the suspension pretty hard and SF's roads aren't exactly smooth. My only concern was that there was something special that this car needed in the alignment process.

    Thanks for the feedback!

fyi...the alignment is only a warranty issue for the 1st year or 12k whichever comes first. It is considered and "adjustment"

the rear, most places, will tell you it is not moveable and they are correct to a point. The shim idea takes quite a big of work to do...it is stricktly a toe and go situation for the front.

I too agree that there is some play in the front suspension but I can almost guarantee that most place WILL NOT touch it.

Ok, then what would you recomend?..Most places won't align it, for what reason?..So i would be better off going to the dealer or let it be?

you can go and get it done...but if the camber is THAT off t hey are going to charge you extra or try to sell you camber bolts. If its a simple toe and go then your fine.

Ah, ok! thanks for the clarification. I doubt it would be the camber being too off. Just wanted to make sure that any shop can do this and that this car doesn't need any special procedure done to it for the alignment since its an electrical system.

Ok, so i took my car in last week and it was off by -3.0 for the toe. So they straightened that out and i must say there was a big difference in how the car handled the uneven pavement and bumps. BUT! My steering was off center slightly to the right -__-

So you should bring it back in and show them the wheel is "off" and have them correct it (nicely) for free since that is part of the alignment procedure.

So i went back and had them fix the issue of having the steering off center. Now, they placed it on the rack but they didnt mess with the wheels. On the contrary, the tech told me that there was a way to "adjust" the steering wheel from the steering gear without moving the wheels out of spec. I personally don't know much when it comes to the whole steering works so i let them work on it. Now after that, the car rides in a straight line. Only thing is that the pressure i use to feel or feedback from the steering is almost gone, in other words it doesnt stiffen up as much and it doesnt push back when i have the wheels turned. Not just that, now the steering feels a bit more loose and the car runs a bit rougher on the road ( dont know if they are because of the adjustment ) Any thoughts?

Take it back. If it's not right, it's not right. I take mine to the dealer and so far it's always right. Of course it's still under warranty.

But has anyone herd of adjusting the steering from just the steering gear\column to just move the steering wheel?...wouldn't that cause some issue or throw something off compared to just re aligning the toe?
