    Navigation via phone bluetooth

So I heard on the grapevine that apps may exist that would allow you to use your phone's navigation program (if you have one) on the Veloster's screen using bluetooth. Does such a thing exist?

I heard something like that too. But the only thing is the Veloster is set to only play videos while in park. So not sure how that would work.

Wanted to add to this one. You can unlock the feature that will allow you to play videos or use your phone navigation while driving through the dash screen. There is another forum post on how to get to the "test" screen and I remember the code you have to enter is 9001 and then 9001 again. Once you do that, it is essentially unlocked and not tied to only watching anything while in park.

Let me know if you have any questions. Here to help!!

To my knowledge there is NO VIDEO OUT/IN THROUGH BLUETOOTH whatsoever..

now, if you fire up a navigation app and select to stream music locate don your phone then you'd get navigation commands through your speakers..

Negative on that one as well. As far as I know the only way to launch video from USB is if it is formatted in .avi

Yea, formatted in extremely low quality .avi as the processor in the veloster head unit is slow as dirt. Try to play any quality video through usb and you will realize just how slow it is.

Theoretically speaking, if you hook up an Apple TV to you're aux in, and had someway of showing it while driving, you'd be able to view what's on your iPhone on the veloster screen (wirelessly) via AirPlay.

    Could he interesting.

Actually, this is quite possible. A Galaxy S3 uses MHL technology in it's micro usb. You can buy a MHL Micro USB to HDMI cable. They you would need to purchase a digital HDMI to analog composite converter. Then use the included composite to aux cable that came with the car. That will give you audio and video on the screen. I do not think the touch screen will work though. Someone did this with an ipad or iphone using the apple cable and worked just fine.

Also, you need to power the converter either though the 115v plug or the cigarette plug. I'm in the process of doing this so I can watch my passenger can watch movies and slingbox in my vehicle. Will add pics and thread when I'm done.

As dmtaub said, basically you're looking at three adapters/converters. My issues with this:
    1. The Galaxy needs a special adapter to work with a regular MHL>HDMI adapter (Search Monoprice PID 9716)
    2. The Galaxy doesn't send enough power via the USB, so you need to plug your phone charger into the MHL adapter (confirmed this today on my HDTV at home) (In case anyone doesn't know I can confirm the Monoprice PID 8675 MHL adapter works with my S3)
    3. I have looked before for a HDMI>Composite converter, and they're not cheap. (Example: Monoprice PID 8667) It also needs its own power source as well, so you'll have your main 110v outlet used and one DC outlet used.
Beyond that, you do experience a loss of quality so I'm not sure how the maps would look on the screen.
    4. Having to install three adapters, then plug those into the V's provided video adapter will have your car looking like a chinese laundry.

With all of that said, I always love experimenting with electronics and seeing what we can make them do. So if someone has the tools ready (or is willing to invest in all of them to try) I'd be very interested to see lots of pictures of the results.

But how can you show the video while you're driving? Install an override switch?

and remember, CA and US cars do not have the same restrictions on what you can do with video, and then the rest of the world also has different firmware.

This is not a "one size fits all" problem or solution.
Additionally what the OP wants to do.. hasn't been done.

I'm getting ready to try this out with my galaxy nexus as stated in my post. I'm trying it first with a samsung a/v cable and see if that works. If not, I can do the entire setup for about $50 bucks (found the MHL-HDMI adapter and HDMI-Composite on Amazon) (already have composite and hdmi cable, but if needed, can get those for about $6 total)

You will experience some loss, but the screen on the V is 800x480 and my phone is 1280x720 so I'm hopeful it will still be okay. I know people who have done it with similar vehicles (G35) and it should work.

I also think I can conceal most of it in the center console. The HDMI-composite box has to be plugged in to the 115v adapter and most of the cords can be stored in there. Like I said, I will post pics as soon as I do it.
