Exclamation Xm subscription rates $$..how to get best deal available

After purchasing my Boston Red Veloster with Style and Tech/Nav package here in NY, i have the 3 month Trial to XM radio +Traffic and Weather(expires July 1st). I started researching what it would cost to keep this going after the Trial. The XM site shows $14.49 a month for radio + $ 7 for Traffic and Weather...PRETTY STEEP...

Has anyone with Navigation been able to find a better deal all around? If so what are u paying? XM Customer Service has this stupid policy where they won't offer you a deal, but they will try and match what someone else has..

We all might as well help each other get the best deal...

To get a better rate let the trial expire. They will hound you by mail (and phone if you gave your number to them) to continue your service.

Don't take their first offer. Tell them that you don't see the value in their prices and will purchase apps and music on your phone where it can be used in places other than the car. They will try everything, so just hold out until they offer you half price. At that point tell them you will take it only if they add the service to your smart phone too. Logic being that you want to listen to it anywhere for that price.

You may have to tell them "too bad, you just lost a customer" and they will begin to make offers again. They are desperate. I got offered $25.00 for 4 months with both the car radio and iPhone service. Just have to give them a Credit Card to be billed at regular rate on the 5th month. Fifth month came and I cancel again.

A 15 min phone call will get you a better deal.

I'm saving even more by not subscribing at all. I gathered a basket of old CDs and put them on a big USB drive. I can't recall but way over a couple hundred hours of a great variety of music. When I get tired of those, I'll 'consider' doing XM radio. Today I was listening to part of the Berlioz Requiem. I had forgotten how dramatic the brass choir really was. I couldn't turn it off right away when I got to Lowe's

Heres what I did...just called and complained that some features were not working which they actually were not..weather..and then just made up a price that I wanted to pay and the discounts started to happen. By the end of the call I ended up paying 25 bucks for 6 months of service. Not to bad if you ask me. I'm sure your luck will vary but persistence pays off I guess

This is just my opinion, but there just isn't enough decent programming on Sirius or XM to justify the kind of money they are asking. I've had Sirius and XM for years and I've never paid full price. I once called them after a trial in a new car and told them I wanted to pay half for a year like I was doing in my other car, and they said they couldn't give it to me. I said "ok, cancel my service then". The guy did, then a week later I got a letter in the mail asking me to come back for half off. I called them back to sign back up but told the lady on the phone I was pissed about being given the run around.
I guess it's just the stupid game they play. A pretty poor business practice if you ask me.

Which leads me to believe that these companies ought to allow customers to choose programming "a la carte."

All these cable companies advertise hundreds of channels, but in all actuality, I might watch 15 AT THE MOST. Same with Sirius. When I subscribed, I would only listen to a handful of stations (10 at the most) and the others I could care less about. If this were the case, I would have a cable bill of 15 bucks a month, and a Sirius bill of 3 dollars. These companies are PERFECTLY capable of doing this yet, they would rather dick the customer over.

Have had my V since October... my XM trial ran out and they called me at work a few weeks ago and offered me $24 for 6 months service... not too bad, so I had them bill me (don't give them your CC # 'cause they'll automatically renew the contract at higher price). I also put a bunch of CD's on a USB Thumbdrive - something like 700 songs, but it's always nice to mix things up once in a while.

Nice. I didn't know you could ask them to bill you. I just set a alarm on my calendar about a week before my term is up and call them. i will ask them to bill me next time.

The usb port is awesome. i just bought a mini 16Gb usb drive for the car. It is amazing and you can barely even see it.

It is amazing. Some of the guys on here suggested some of the "low profile" usb drives in another thread that they like, and I am definitely going to have to get one soon.

Food for thought if you don't want to give them a cc# they can auto renew with: Some card companies offer the ability to create a "temporary" number good for a month or two with a maximum cap on spending that you set when you create the card..

Well I drove home listening to Radio Margaritaville -- 30 minutes later went out to take the dog to the dog park --- no authorized channels so I guess my subscription is up -- I will wait and see what they offer me.

My 3 month trial ran out in February but I had a reception issue and complained so a "reflash" was done and I'm still getting the service. They did try to get me to sign on for a half price deal but their service isn't worth it. I still have neumerous dead zones or loss of signal in the routes that I travel, I'm not gonna pay for partiial reception, hell my FM signal is more reliable than the satelite signal.

    "knock on wood"

I've had my car for near 7 months now, and still have satelite radio, haven't paid for anything yet, and I was told it was only a month trial...

my guess is: my car was traded from another dealer for the color i wanted, i'd assume mayby they had a lifetime or a years worth added to the car...either way i will find out soon i suppose, lol

My trial period is about to expire and they called us with all kinds of offers. I know there are deals to be had for short 4mth terms. My wife and I decided since we spend so much time in this car to get the lifetime subscription. We did not want to deal with the constant haggling on renewals. We paid $499. Now just have to hope the stereo doesn't crap out.

my expired two weeks ago and I haven't had any new offers --- of course they don't have my phone # but nothing in the mail either. I don't think i would do a life time subscription but each to their own.

Lifetime??? I thought they discontinued that YEARS ago. I remember when I first started subscribing to Sirius and I debated about getting it.

The only reason I would want it is because of the street name by voice has to have it. That was posted by someone a while back and I never heard anything to dispute that. I hate that something that basic in a GPS we have to pay for. Should be included with the $$$$$ we put out for the nav system.

I got XM lifetime for $399.00, but probably because I also have SIRIUS lifetime in another car purchased over 4 years ago - stupid company does not recognize the merger yet within their billing system and I'm convinced its purposeful. Such a rip. Probably will take me >4 years to break even but I don't want to be bothered with monthly billing...

6/25 is the best deal that I've seen. The last time it was offered to me was 4/16/12. You can probably get it by saying "My friend just got it".

    Good luck!
