    USB Video, Navigation Install | v1.5.2 | Development Release | 02.04.2012

Welcome to the newest development release of the custom user interface.

Please follow all instructions from step 1

    UI Design and Installer: Dezoris
    C++ and Compilation: John_H, Dezoris

    Test Code Discovery: Trey
    Underlying Application Code:
    Woohaeng

    Purpose:

Installs custom UI/shell that allows users to launch a video player, mp3 player and navigation software. (early beta) Users can opt to use this shell to watch videos, music and in future releases have functioning navigation built into the head unit.

    Why?

I am doing this project because I believe all products can be made better, and for many of us we have a product that was stripped of many features compared to other markets. My goal is to return some of this functionality we have lost. It is also to show Hyundai and other companies what is possible when they listen to and leverage their avid and niche customers. The more companies embrace and empower their customers the better it is for their long term health and better for owners who are making long term commitments to a brand. This is a personal project which I am leveraging for educational and career reasons and also because I am working towards a certificate in HCI.

    How to Install:

For version 1.5 and greater a new installer has been developed to reduce issues with corruption and helps users get the files on their device without the need for de-compressors.

    1. Download the installer: http://www.veloster.org/docs/dezoris...5nav/setup.exe 26.4MB
    2. Save to a location like your desktop
    3. Plug in your USB device (Flash Stick, External Hard Drive - MUST BE FORMATTED FAT32)
    4. Once plugged in go to "My Computer" or double click "Computer" on your desktop and remember what drive letter the drive is mounted as.
    5. Go into the drive and create a new folder called OLD and move all your files to that folder. The only folder that should be on the drive is "OLD" after.
    6. Double click "setup.exe" from wherever you saved it.
    7. Click Next and then read and accept the license agreement.
    8. Chose the drive letter of the flash drive you have plugged in by clicking "Change"
    9. Use the drop down and select your drive letter and click "OK."
    10. Verify the drive letter is correct on the next screen.
    11. Click "INSTALL"
    12. On Windows7 or Vista it may ask you if the install is ok to continue, click YES or OK.
    13. Once the install completes click: "Finish"

    Post Install:

    1. Go into your USB flash drive or hard disk and move some music into the music folder.
    2. If you have videos now is the time to move them to the movie folder.
    3. Remove the USB drive from your computer and head to the vehicle for the next part of the install.

Vehicle Install: (Only have to do this part once)

    1. Go to car and plug in stick to USB port and turn vehicle to accessory mode so head unit turns on.
    2. After 1 minute press "Media" and then USB or PHOTO and make sure the car starts playing the MP3 and then press pause. Better option is to load at least one picture to MY PHOTO. Go to "Media" and the choose "Pictures" to show a picture. This starts the audio driver so you can hear sound from the new interface. (Important Step you must do one or the other before proceeding)
    3. Hold down SETUP/INFO for 5 seconds and go to the test menu.
    4. Enter code: 9582 9582
    5. Once the screen switches to WinCE Double Tap MY DEVICE (A Stylus or pen will help you touch the screen)
    6. Next screen Double Tap "MD" (This is the USB Drive you have plugged in)
    7. Double Tap INSTALLER
    8. Double Tap INSTALLVIDEO.bat (You only have to do this one time) After running that file a new folder should have appeared next to it called "Install Complete" if you don't see that folder repeat step 7.
    9. Turn off car bring keys and walk away for 5-10 minutes to allow for system to reset. If you cannot wait you can do a manual reset however you will have to reset your clock:
    10. Touch Screen Frozen, Buttons Don't Work | How to Reset

Install Complete - How to Launch New Shell / UI:

After Each Reboot (Everytime you see the Red Veloster on startup) to get into the shell:
    1. Start Car with USB Stick plugged in.
    2. Start Playing MP3 and pause the song, or choose a photo from the photo menu which is a better option.
    3. Hold down Info/Setup for 5 Seconds: In test mode enter code: 9583 9583
    4. The Shell will launch
    5. To launch video player, press the Video Icon and the when prompted for serial press cancel.
    6. Next press the light switch icon at the top right.
    7. You can now launch the video player.
    8. To open videos select the "UP ARROW" on the video player screen.
    9. To launch music press the play button and select all your music to play.
    10. To launch the NAV software press the NAV icon.

    Navigation Development Problems:

Currently we are able to get the navigation software launched and running, however we cannot get a GPS lock.
All users of this software are tasked with figuring out a way to get a GPS lock and report back findings.

You have to have windows installed to do that or have parallels/vm fusion but still need windows... I don't have any need for any windows programs so I don't have either set up....oh well

I finally got mine to work now with this latest update thanks. Now that it is loaded on the car do i have to keep that software on the thumb drive or can i remove it and put in a larger USB storage device with more movies and more music in the USB slot or must i keep the 1.5.2 file on whatever storage device i am using as well? Also did i miss it where we talked about the best movie file type and resolution to save the movies as for the smoothest playback?

You have to keep the drive in to launch the interface. However you can install this software on any external drive.

Is there a way to exit the nav screen? I didn't look around too much, but I couldn't find a way so I just let it reset to get out of it >.< Also is this nav supposed to work (at least when you can get the gps lock) even on cars with no nav function?

Good stuff, I'll help in any way that I can to get this working. Does anyone know if the base model is physically connected to the gps antenna or is the shark-fin only for XM for those models with gps inactive?

I have the base Canadian V, it seems to pick up COM2 as the gps port so that at least makes me a little hopeful. I assume this is where you're getting stuck as it tries to cycle the baud rates. I think I remember reading on a forum awhile ago there was a command in windows ce to unlock gps at the command prompt. I wasn't able to get the command prompt working so I left it, but I think that would be a place to start.

If gps doesn't connect, I would still be interested in having the maps available and just set my start location and scroll or something, it would be better than nothing. I downloaded the Canada map for sygic 7.71. Would I need to alter the .mlm file to only have the can.pak in it and delete all the other entries? And is the wcl.pak needed in the folder as well, I think that was for world map.

Were you able to get the map working? I haven't tested with the map I just downloaded, but the keygen needs the Device ID for activation and in the Sygic settings/about... the Device ID is blank. Is there another way to figure that out? Is it on a label on the back of the head unit or something?

Anyways really excited about this potential

On another note, I was playing with 'application data/CorePlayer/config.xml' and near the bottom, changing Windowed="1" to Windowed="0" will make the video player fit nicely to the edges of the screen to make the buttons and fonts bigger for easier control.

Well hopefully we can get it working!

I have the map file for NAC but I am not going to bother uploading it until we can communicate with the GPS antenna because the file is 1.8GB!

You need a working MLM and license file in the map directory where the map file is located.

In terms of unlocking the GPS you can run command line tasks but you have to run them as batch files.

Finally got the maps to work! I only used the Canada map to keep it simple. The main issue I had with it was getting a working activation code. The keygen requires the device ID which was blank in the headunit. Work around was using a cracked trial code that doesn't expire. I'll post steps once I get some sleep (damn flu).
Now on to the GPS positioning.

I have come to the same point as Chuck, COM2 seems to be the most promising. Dezoris, when you say batch CLI, do you have a page that I could learn more? Chuck also said he found info on that in a forum. I have the style package, so no tech w/GPS, and under software info I found some acronyms I am not 100% sure on. I am looking those up. Thanks for the work everybody and Chuck, feel better man.
