Question How does one correctly "eject" an Ipod Nano 6th Gen from the Veloster? Or USB stick?

    Hello all,

First post here, and a few questions I've not found answers to in either the manuals or via googling--which
is how I found this community!

I've had my 2013 Veloster for just under a week, and I'm still puzzling through all the new geektoys it's got,
so I've a couple of questions I hope someone can answer or point me in the right direction for further info.

I've searched the forums with several variations on the theme of how to correctly eject and/or disconnect
an Ipod Nano 6th Gen from the Veloster. I've not found any specific results that answer that question, nor
does the AV manual on the CD supplied with my new car supply information on that, either.

I have seen several recommendations to put music on a USB stick/thumb drive--I have a 16GB Kingston
DataTraveller that's not in use, but this also brings up the same question: is there a proper method of
disconnecting/ejecting this type of device on the Veloster's AV headunit / USB jack?

A parallel example is that one must 'eject' a USB device, be it an Android smartphone, USB stick/thumb
drive or Ipod from one's Windows based PC in order to not damage the files or content on it. I would
currently have to assume that the same is probably true of the Veloster...

(Please note, I'm a former IT tech and graphic artist who builds her own computers and betatests. I do
RTFM. I'm just very new to the wonderful world of high tech cars...)

    Thanks in advance!

I don't think the Veloster writes to the file system on a USB, so you shouldn't lose any data if you pull it 'hot' - I take mine out when I've stopped the engine - you will see data flashing on an led equipped USB drive when you unlock the doors to get in, so there's definitely a read at that time - pulling the drive out then could cause issues for the head unit.

    You pull the device out.
It doesn't do write caching so there's no need to "safely eject" since any eject is safe.

BTW the majority of Windows USB devices don't need "safely eject" since as of XP they default to "Quick Removal" which does not need to be "safely removed" you can check in Device Manager if you have any doubts. Tons of people just do it because they can see the icon, not because need to.

Not knowing any better, ahem, I just yanked it out. I have done this w/ the motor running and not. All is fine. What I can not do is plug a mini ipod in directly using the usb. I have to use the earphone outlet. My sansa works fine. Guess I'll use the sansa.....

OK, that answers the USB stick. Supposedly one can plug in Ipod in and listen to music from it--so, how would one remove the Ipod without causing issues for the headunit or the Ipod?

And while we're on the subject, will the headunit play *.wma, *.MP4 and *.M4A format files from that USB stick?

    Thanks!

I believe if you plug the iPod in it will actually say "safe to remove" or "safe to unplug" on it's display. So you should not have any issues with unplugging it.

I believe the stereo will play non protected WMAs, though I am not sure about MP4 or M4A; but if it does I am 100% sure they would need to be non-protected (non-DMAed).

Once again, there's no write caching, you just pull the cable, it's not as complicated as folks seem to think.
You're getting caught in "windows think" where an ipod in some scenarios needs to be "ejected" to clean up its DB after a sync, but not all.

Yeah, being stuck in "widoze space" can throw one for a loop when presented with something that's neither MS nor Apple. I'll give it a whirl this afternoon and see what happens!

LOL! I've never had a dock for one.... Just a my little Nano that I plug headphones or earbuds into--but now, I know, so...I'll try the USB stick later and see what happens. Thanks for all the tips and stuff. I'll look for more info as I discover more new stuff, that's for sure.
