    Splash screen/Screensaver questions

That's the image that's on my VT, which I got just this week. I really like that image, and I'd like to use it as my default "screensaver" image, but it won't let me select it in the setup. It seems I can load images in from a USB stick, but that one's not available from inside the system. Anyone know how to get a useable copy as a separate .jpg so I can load and use it?

    UPDATE:
I called HyundaiUSA direct and spoke to a very helpful live rep who understood what I was talking about and went off to find answers for me. Hooray for Hyundai service! Unfortunately, the answers weren't all that encouraging. Hyundai, of course, doesn't actually manufacture or program the units; that's a vendor function. So they don't have a copy of the actual picture file available. My next contact will be whatever company does produce or program the head unit, but they weren't able to give me that information either. I think someone here mentioned LG, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know?

The splash screen is NOT user selectable, never has been, the reason that it went from the red concept Veloster to the Veloster logo was an update in the firmware. I'd prefer updated software over the image I see when the head unit boots.

You also refer to "screensaver" but the only time the "screensaver" slide show will display is if you have all the AV functions off.

The topic had nothing to do with the broken head unit issues in the initial thread, but just an aside comment, so it's been split off to a new discussion since it's not about anything broken.

Thank you for directing this to its own thread, as I believe it deserves one. Especially now that many of those who, like yourself, abhor the original splash screen now find a new one when they get their A/V updated and several have noted that they like this one.

I refer to "screensaver" because that's what the AV refers to it as. Of course I know better, as do you. Nevertheless, not everyone leaves her/his AV running at all times. Many of us still consider our automobile as means of transportation and not just an IPod headset on wheels. I'm personally not interested in what your preferences are. MY interest is the subject of my question remains... how do I get my hands on that graphic file so I can use it the way *I* want to, regardless of whether you would do that or not.

I never had any luck with LG. They basically act like the head unit doesn't exist, or wasn't by them.

The answer to the big questions is that they just don't care, they've all but barely updated the head units. Hyundai doesn't want to touch it because they outsourced it to LG, and this unit is unique in the lineup, no other car uses it. LG has no vested interest because rightfully so, it's not their problem, they built it to spec for Hyundai, if Hyundai doesn't want to pay LG to update it nothing will happen.

There is no happy answer, and as I said, I'd care more about the updates being applied as opposed to the splash screen that I can't change anyway, and many MANY folks griped about because they didn't like the concept car being displayed.

Hyundai did this to themselves, they built what they felt was a high end unit, and then have all but washed their hands out of the support needed for that kind of item, it's all about the design, and then abandon it once you sell the product.

How does the screensaver even work? Haven't even seen the clock unless I press the button.

As mentioned in that very fine manual that folks should read, the screensaver only works when the is no audio source playing.

If you press the SETTINGS button and select SCREENSAVER you can choose between the clock, any of the graphic files you've loaded (but not the Veloster Turbo logo as indicated by the thumbnail shown), or nothing at all (black screen).

Yeah, even when no audio is playing my screensaver doesn't show. Weird.

These are 1024 by 768 so you may have to bring them to the V's screen resolution. Let me know how they look.

These are a bit smaller at 900 by 600:

Thanks, VTlover67. But those are similar to the red car one that everyone complains about. The one I'm looking for is the "Veloster Turbo" insignia set against a honeycomb mesh screen, blue fading to black. It's really pretty cool, and think -- from what I've found here -- that it replaces the old one for anyone getting their HU upgraded. Unfortunately the actual graphic file is hidden somewhere in the upgrade software and no one seems to be able to get their hands on it as a separate file that can be put into MyPhotos. Thanks anyway, though; those are cool pictures (my VT is Boston Red, BTW, so I'm a little predjudiced toward that color )

i think the point being missed is that even when you choose those settings, the only time you can have them show is with no audio source running, I don't think I've ever NOT had something running. heck you can't even cycle it to have it display the clock with anything playing for more than a few seconds.

The whole unit feels and acts as if it was designed and built by developers that never actually have used it in normal operation.

Ah I got you! Ok I know there is a thread on there that has those pictures. I just need to look for them.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but whatever you have selected (logo, clock, nothing) it will be displayed if you have your AV off completely. Hold power button till screen turns off.

Might be confusing to folks thinking if you have no music running the saver will pop up (it doesn't). Phone calls will still go through if you have the "nothing" option selected. Confirmed yesterday.

I don't always listen to music and don't really need a giant clock. "Nothing" for me. Less light in my face at night too.

So, no one has been able to extract the "Veloster" logo on blue mesh background from the updated head unit software yet?

I'm not sure if I'm following the gist of this thread or not but I see the use of "screensaver", and "wallpaper" . They seem to be used here to mean the same thing.
If you want a picture, any picture, to appear on the screen, while not listening to music, etc. load some JPEGS onto a flash drive and then download them to MY PICTURES. You can scroll through them by tapping the screen once and hitting the directional arrow.
If the car is in Park you can set up a slide show with varying screen times. That function is disabled if the car is in gear.
Oh, by the way, vtlover67, thanks for the Red concept car. I prefer that splash screen over the blue one and I will download that to use as a wallpaper.
One thing that irritates me is that you can't have a slide show while the car is in gear but many owners have the SatNav on the screen and it is constantly changing. Why is one acceptable but not the other?
Does anyone have a workaround for the slideshow?
