Hey everyone. According to the service manual the center facia, the gray "V" looking trim around your radio and the HVAC controls are one piece. There are two small openings at the bottom on either side of your start button. Supposedly your suppose to take a screw driver or plastic trim tool and pry it off. There are 3 clips on each side holding it in place. Pry it off, disconnect the HVAC controls and you are free to remove the head unit. (which is all the buttons, trim, and cd player, i figured it was just the screen for some reason.)
Either way your probably asking what's the point of this post? Well I contacted both Metra and Scosche to one, custom order an after market piece (dash kit) to fit the remaining slot for a double din radio and two, see if they are in development already. Three, get a wiring harness. (If i were to take a guess, i would assume that its the same wiring harness used in the Sonata/Accent) but i could be wrong. Back on topic. I went to my V to take off the facia to confirm which kind of connector it had. I wedged my screw driver in the slots and just couldn't pry the panel off. I worked at it for some time but its on there solid. I gave up as i was already scraping up my dash under the slot and plan to re-try after i obtain an trim remover. If anyone has any tips or has done this i would like to know how.
Finally, I hope to be the first V owner with a new headunit. I plan to put my App radio in place of the current headunit and have it molded into the dash color matching as if it was stock. If i can't get a dash kit made anytime soon ill have to get tricky but shouldn't be to hard. As far as the wiring i would just have to use taps instead of the harness if it is in fact a new Veloster connector.
Sidenote: This is the base model and i'm not aware of it having an amp to bypass. under the passenger seat is where the others models are located and there is nothing under my seat so i would assume that the headunit is powering everything. Also, it would be nice if Hyundai had a better layout or blueprint of the headunit and the connectors in the service manual as well as a simple wiring diagram color coded for all the speakers but i guess ill have to make those up in the process.
Stay tuned...attached are some relevant pictures
