Regarding members telling others to "search"

I was looking for a safe way to preserve the front H emblem on the grill (want to reuse to paint). Searched and literally the first 2 pages of results, 12-15 threads per page, are members telling the OP to "search before asking." Seems pretty counter intuitive because I literally spent more time searching than actually getting the answer.

I've seen forums tell people to "search because its been beaten to death" if the forum is on a car thats 2-10 years old. But on a new forum, new car, new members, people can go about it a different way. Just a thought.

Perhaps more stickies or one Sticky with links in the first to common threads/questions would go a long way in subforums.

It is getting that fine balance between helping the people that need the help and have looked for it and replying to the people that just cant be bothered looking.

It can be annoying on both sides.

You didn't answer the other question I'd have with your comment, when you searched did you find a post that answered your question?
If yes, then that is EXACTLY why folks suggest you search.

Folks that have been here even for a month get a feel for what has and hasn't been answered, and anyone that hangs out on a forum gets tired of answering the same question every week, searching is just the right thing to do.

The problem is new folks that walk in, don't look around, and then want answers spoon fed to them as opposed to being part of the community, a forum like this isn't "your own personal ask.com" its a community that needs folks to both give and take, and for those that do believe in it as a community don't have a great deal of patience for folks that just want to come and take, take, take.

And we do try to balance the stickies, because there are other folks saying "there are too many stickies, why do we need them when folks can just search?"

I know that's a longer answer than you may have wanted, but it's the reason folks tell you to search

If you're on a car forum in the first place and can make an account, you can damn well navigate through the topics to find what you need. This site is set up great besides the editing.

you can search and find nothing very easily....you have to know what to search for. Not all people call "preserve the H emblem up front" the same so if you search for that, you probably won't get anything.

If you search for terms that others might use like "cover emblems" you will get something more relevant.

pickviper, you've been here long enough, you see that the same questions get asked over, and over, and over, I'm not being a bitch when I say "open your eyes and look" especially when someone asks a question that's ALREADY ANSWERED in the existing thread. If they can't even be bother to read the thread they're posting in it's not being a bitch to suggest they read it.

There's a huge difference between someone saying "I've searched and I can't find what I'm looking for" which I can and do respect,
and "I can't be bothered to search, do it for me and spoon feed me the answer" which I do not.
