Hyundai Veloster Turbo To Debut At New York Auto Show With 208 Horsepower

Hyundai looks set to address the complaints of those who thought that their Veloster sports coupe was underpowered by showing a turbocharged version at the upcoming New York Auto Show.

The car will use an upgraded version of the Gamma 1.6L direct-injection 4-cylinder producing 208 horsepower, putting it in direct competition with the Volkswagen GTI, MINI Cooper S and other boosted hot hatches. Hyundai is also reportedly aiming to get close to the base Veloster's 40 mpg rating.

Can't wait to hear and see more on the Veloster Turbo. 208 HP should help make it into a fun hatch. I just hope it will keep up with it's competition since they have been around much longer than Hyundai and the Veloster.

Autoguide will probably be posting the New York International Auto Show coverage later this month so we will have to wait for that.

As far as I can tell all we got out of the New York auto show was confirmation the Veloster will be priced below the CR-Z.

So between Detroit and this announcement the price range now seems to be betweeen 17-20k.

and that pricing seems about right...because they are coming out with an elantra coupe that is supposed to have a 1.8t motor in it and slot inbetween this and the gen coupe.

if you stay out of boost it really wont affect it, but having all four wheels moving all the time will affect it more.

Unless the Veloster is a super boring ride when I test drive I'll get the regular and skip waiting for turbo. I've done the super powerful thing before (Camaro z28) - I'd rather get a fun ride with great mpg and less wait.

Turbo's don't waste gas if setup properly and with the right AF management then im sure you wont have an issue!
