Hyundai Veloster Turbo Confirmed, Will Bow at Detroit Auto Show

Rumored for months and perhaps even years, Hyundai has confirmed it will offer a Veloster Turbo model. Announced by Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik at a media dinner in Las Vegas on the eve of the SEMA Show, the car will officially debut at the Detroit Auto Show this January. Krafcik was mum on Details regarding the engine output but did say it will be a turbocharged direct injection 1.6-liter 4-cylinder. Past reports have indicated the engine will make 204-hp and 195 lb-ft of torque.

At the SEMA Show Hyundai does have plans to unveil a turbocharged Veloster, but it won’t be a production car. Far from it. Built by ARK Performance, the race-inspired tuner car (above) will, however, sport a 210-hp twin-scroll turbocharged 1.6-liter.

When the Veloster Turbo is finally unveiled it won’t be along with Krafcik also promising the debut of the 2013 Genesis Coupe in the Motor City.

wow.....i was afraid the turbo would never come to fruition. anyone know a timeline on its release? going to in market for new car soon. also, while i would rather the manual, it would be an easier sell to my other half if we could get the DCT. thus anyone know if it will be offered in with this tranmission?
lastly, for those who debate on whether or not to wait for turbo...if you appreciate strong power, then wait. i bought an '05 4cly tiburon and love it except for the power. i did intake / exhaust, so it sounds and looks fast, it just isn't

    Just call me waiting...
I bet Turbo will be both DCT and MT
I suspect it will show up in late 2012 as a 2013
I'm already planning to go to NAIAS for the turbo's claimed public release

very exciting....the reviews of the n/a model all seem to state that this is a promising chasis just a little underwhelming unfer the hood. plop a 1/3 more power in it and should be a real fun car.

the last somewhat performance oriented car i owned was a '90 eclipse turbo which was pretty fun....reasonable light
(most cars these days seem like heavy pigs to me).

i belive the eclipse had about 190hp. although i don't know what the torque was, it did not have much down low, say under 3000rpm. i am looking forward to seem what this turbo engine does thirty years later.

how do ya'll think the turbo V will compare to that old eclipse???

^ there are ALOT of electronics to the car and they might take away from the experience. I know that i have driven a couple of turbo'd elantras and they seemed much quicker then even the sonata turbo...I think the "feeling" of being faster came from the direct connection to the car...I could be wrong...they might have just been simply faster.

if its the same situation as the r-spec that i drove and the granny ESC/TCS...its going to be a touch call. Although if there is something lacking a reflash should make up for its short coming. (come on Power Axel!)
