Official 2012 Spring Run of the Dragon!

GenSport Carolinas was started last year with a primary goal of creating opportunities for owners to network socially and explore performance driving environments both competitive and simply for fun.


The Tail of The Dragon is one of North America's most well-known motorcycle and sports car roads. This stretch of highway contains 318 turns in just over 11 miles with no cross-streets. Thousands of drivers come from all over North America and beyond to drive this road every year. The road is covered with professional photographers and nice rides.


On April 5th - 8th, we'll have our 2nd Annual Spring Run of The Dragon and would love for each of you to join us. We're all staying at Fontana Village which is nicely located at the start of Hellbender (another nice road) that takes us to The Dragon. We are currently finalizing a group rate for rooms in the Fontana Lodge as well as 2 and 3 bedroom cabins. Group rate info will be posted within the next week. Last Spring's run was a great success and the fall run turned out even better. SFR and Kouki Motorsports were able to join us for the fall run where they provided the SFR tune for 2.0s and 3.8s. We are excited to invite SFR and Kouki back for the Spring run and we hope that they will be able to offer the fantastic tune that so many members enjoy. We are reaching out to additional GenCoupe and Veloster vendors and will keep everyone posted if additional vendors will be able to participate.


We had people come from all corners east of the Mississppi, Florida, Carolinas, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Texas, New Jersey and probably some others as well. We have already seen increased interest from the "yankees" up in the mid-Atlantic area and hope that we can get some more participation from our friends in the north.

For those who aren't familiar with the Tail of the Dragon, it's a mountain road 11 miles in length with 318 turns. Last year we took a day and drove the Cherohala Skyway, as high as 5,300 feet for amazing mountain views. We had over 40 Genesis Coupes at the event last October and would love to have some Velosters join up with us this year.

It's located at Fontana Dam, North Carolina, for anyone wanting to use Google Maps. It's literally about a mile from the Tennessee / North Carolina border.

That's OK. We still like calling you that. Especially when you guys complain that we can't drive on ice. Right before you have to get pulled out of a ditch because of ice.

who can drive on ice? we can drive on snow, thats for sure, I had a explorer with broken 4 wheel drive in my younger years, would drive through the mt's in VT to go skiing and still make it just fine...

I know, but I'm from Atlanta. Lots of "Northerners" (to be pc) make comments that they can drive on ice and we can't. Usually followed by an accident involving ice.

hmm well i dont know anyone that i grew up with that says they can drive on "ice" we never got a real bad ice storm when i grew up in CT, we are most def not afraid of snow though...

Its really the same here. The problem is people are used to their home state. We very seldom get snow. When we do it doesn't stay snow long. Usually melts and refreezes becoming ice with a little snow on top. Hence the ending up in a ditch.

From the north, now living in Austin Texas, these people have a hard time driving on wet roads, the city shuts down at the first sign of snow. Whether you can drive on snow or not you don't want to because you are likely to be hit by someone who doesn't know what they are doing.
